I have 03 Leon cupra , in august 05 my coolant sensor was changed under warranty and replaced with another black top version.

Last week driving my temp gauge went from halfwaty back to zero , so diagnosed as faulty swith , phoned the stealers expalined what problem was , "no problem sir switch is covered by 2 year warranty" result getting new switch under warranty , then comes the crunch ! "actually sir i have to take back what i said , your car has expired from the main seat warranty and therefore the warranty on the switch has expired too" [:@]

wtf? surley if the part is covered by a 2 year warranty and only fails after 1 year it should be replaced under warranty?
they said if i bought the part and had it changed then the warranty would still be valid.
is this right or are they fobbing me off with crap?
i said that this was a common fault and asked how many they change ? answer hundreds.
if u ask me its a nice little money earner for them.
i will make sure i get a green top 1 this time round but feel really peeded off [:@]

I agree with what you are saying but I have come across this before. If you buy the part you would get the 2 year warranty, but you didn't buy the part, it was 'given' to you under your car's warranty, it isn't provided with it's own individual warranty so when your cars warranty expired so did the warranty on any parts replaced under the warranty. It sucks, but does seem to be SEAT's standard policy.

Sadly that's true for most warranty agreements. If something is repaired under warranty that individual part runs alongside the car's warranty, not it's own.

Had the same problem with the clutch master cylinder. Failed, was replaced by garage, and failed again some 4 months later. Luckily genuine SEAT part fitted so the Stealer replaced again, but i still only got the remainder of the original waranty despite it being a new part. Sad thing is SEAT say this is such a common fault, and they are not sure if the failiure has been designed out with the replacement part so could easily go again.
