Washer bottle capacity

Today, having had the washer fluid light come on for the first time I have had to fill my washer bottle up. Does anyone know what the actual capacity of the bottle is? I have just put in about 4lts of fluid...

I checked the handbook to see what the capacity is, but although the book said "turn to page 293" for the capacity, there is no mention of it at all.... or at least I can't see it:(

Found the answer on ETOS (Legal version - I have a licence ;) )

The bottle is in two sections, the top one, which you see under the bonnet, and has the filler cap, is 1.1 Lts

The remaining section under the wing, which is hidden, is 3.86 lts.... so 4.96 lts in total :)

So there must be about 1 ltr left when the warning lamp comes on... Not very big when you have headlamp wash as well....

Hello Stu

I spoke with my dealer when my car was serviced on December 22nd. I am also a tad miffed as I drive to Scotland pretty much every week doing between 500 - 800 miles per week, and due to the damn light washer and the poxy amount of water the car holds, I end up filling the tank 3-4 times a week at the moment - Even driving locally will often get to a stage where I need to fill it once a week (ish). the problem is, when you pull the stalk to wash the screen, you need to leave it on a bit for it to get up the screen, then the light washer jumps in and whoosh! lol - I asked if they could delay the light washer for a couple of seconds like I could on my old beemer, but they said they cant. So it looks like I am destined to spend time every week filling the washer bottle and having the bloomin car "pinging" at me all the time!

It is a pain tbh, I would have thought this would have been sussed from the previous Audi clothing but evidently not. Shame, but its the only thing the upsets me about my car :) Rest of it is brill!

I may be wrong, but I am sure that on the Exeo, the headlamp washers work every time you wash the screen if the headlamps are on.... If I remember correct the headlamp wash on my old Leon only worked once in every 3/4 screen washes...

Does make it very quick to empty a bottle...

I can confirm that for my Exeo the headlight washers only operate when the headlights are on. Also I find that if I use a couple of very short pushes of the windscreeen washer rather than one slightly longer push, I can get enough water on the screeen to clear it without the headlamp washers operating. But I agree, a delay of say 1 second before the headlamp washers operate would be much better.

I took delivery of my exeo on day 2 of the arctic winter which started here the end November. After 1 day I noticed the washer symbol came on and have had to fill up the reservoir every single day since.
I have the headlight washer system and it certainly empties your fluid fairly quickly but I now switch the h/lights off if I want to wash/wipe and that seems to keep the level up for a bit longer.
I also noticed even with neat screen wash the system couldn`t cope with temps. below say -5C and the lowest we had here was -18C.

Yeah you guys are right and I should have been more specific, it does indeed only kick in with the headlights on. Personally I leave them on Auto lol

However, as I live in Leeds and travel to Scotland, it is generally driving up and back down when its normally quite dark so I suppose a majority of the use is when my lights are on.

I do give it a couple of taps buts its often not quite enough to give you the clean screen you want :( But like Koops said, a 1 second delay OR a 1 in 4 wash system would help so much in trying to keep the refilling down a tad. I may try adjusting the sprayers to hit a little higher up the screen, that may help I suppose if I try to "double tap"

Got to admit though, around Leeds during the freeze (when the washers worked!) there wasnt much to clean from the screen as the damn council hardly used any grit lol - :censored:! It was also a pain if you did manage to get some water out and again the light washers popped out slightly and spent the next couple of days stuck out, but I guess the washers were probably not designed with -9 in mind - Still love my car though ;)

You would think with the technology around now, it would cost very little to put a senso to stop the headlamp washers working when very cold, to stop them freezing out...

As my light came on again this morning, I too was thinking the same thing - about how small the capacity of the washer bottle is. It bugs me as I have a dension ipod adapter, which displays the track names in same part of the dash that the warning lights appear. If the light comes on I can't see what track is playing, or navigate albums...
