the ticking noise wont calm down its just how they are, you prob never noticed before thats all.
I hope for your sake it runs like it did before cold start it should be at 1500rpm then drop when warmed up it just run just under 1000rpm (850rpm) temp gauge should go to 90 at not go over if it does somthings wrong.

no prob mate ill try my best to help

It's way to loud a ticking for it not to have been noticed, you can hear it clearly above anything else and like i said it gest louder/quicker when i put my foot down at all.

I just hope my cars not serioulsy damaged as i just can't afford to get it fixed right now. I'll make sure i turn her off if temp goes above 90.

You reckon if i record the sound and stick it on here you might be better equiped to make judgement.. technology ay : )

Thanks again mate.

I originally put 4 litres in when i did the change but was a bit low so put another litre in there so five litres in total, surely that should be enough? whats the best way to judge the right level?

Just recorded the sound can i send it to your mobile? it's quite clear.

Oh dear mate that really doesnt sound good!

Sounds like you have damaged something top end of your engine! postive is, to repair that its cheaper than the bottom end of the engine.

it doesnt sound like its missfiring, so i rekcon you would of damaged a hydraulic lifter (tapit) with so much water and the fact that the engine is time could of sent a valve up to fast pushing it up into the lifter denting it, the cam loab is hitting the lifter which is higher due to the dent causeing the tapping.

Its hard to say without seeing it but i wouldnt run the car because like you say it may damage it more, but im afraid its gonna be a garage job!

It needs the rocker cover taking off and inspecting inside.

sorry mate but bad news

no it wont run but it would push what ever excess water you had out of your cylinders through the spark plug holes but theres no point doin it now it would of burnt the water off by now and the damage is already done im afraid

Trying to start the engine after you went through the puddle has resulted in you trying to compress all of the water in your bores.

I did the same when i had massive head gasket failure on a peugeot 205gti i owned - had to run without plugs to clear the water etc as mentioned in the link above.

Do a compression check on your engine and see if thats ok, you could have bent something and will only make it worse trying to drive it around.

Injector noise you can hear at idle but once you increase the revs its usually drowned out by engine noise so its unlikely its that.

Ive been advised to maybe look at getting a second hand engine? i feel like crying mate! All this from going through a puddle – ‘learning the hard way’ is a massive understatement.

My engine was perfect before all this.. I can’t believe it! 3 days til xmas as well… nice one.
