Wet Door Sill - After Door Card Seal Replaced

Hi all,

I have a wet door sill on front drivers side (footwell still dry)
I have already replaced the door seal on inner door card (butyl tape) and now if poor water on window it only comes out of drain holes and not from door card. However sills still wet when it rains.

Is there any other way water could be getting in (door rubbers etc) or is the only option to try to re-do door seal again?

Thanks
Ben

Did you reseal the speakers as this is another common leaking point?

Thanks for the advice, I didn't reseal the speaker as didn't have the card off (just removed most bolts and lifted edge) as I understand full removal of the inner card is a nightmare job to get back together.

I'll have another go at the main seal, maybe I didn't get all the debris out.. won't be easy getting all the butyl tape out tho :-(

I re-sealed all 4 of my doors without fully removing the inne4 door panel.
Just remove all the bolts except 2 at the top and have those fully wound out simply to support the panel but still allowing access behind it.
I managed to scrape all the old crumbly seal away quite easily whilst holding the panel out.
It's also possible to apply the buytl strip in one continuous seal although it's a bit fiddly around where the door wiring loom is at one end but doable none the less.

Yep, I did exactly the DNA using the guide on seatcupra.net.
The last repair only lasted 3 months, hopefully it works better this time...

Done right the butyl tape should last years.

To add to Thai's info I replaced the top 2 bolts with longer ones to allow a little more wiggle room, just use the original bolts again when putting it all back.

The butyl is very forgiving and can be applied in easy to handle lengths but make sure you overlap joins keeping a constant thickness. You can treat it much like blue-tac to mould it together.

If you need to get any old off use a wedge of butyl, press that onto it and it will pull it away. But I would say that if the butyl is sticking to the metal then it has a good contact so don't fret too much about clearing it all out. The key is to get everything really clean first, scrap out all old foam and go over the surface with a degreaser or rubbing alcohol.

take a look at the underside of the door, it may be the rubber seal under the door needs a clear out of crap. you can also work out where the water runs from the drain holes and see if what you describe is normal or not. ultimately the water needs to go somewhere, so the short answer is if there is water on the sills OUTSIDE the car and the inside is not getting well then this indicates the water is draining correctly via the drain holes.
