What can my ECU really do?

I have been trying to find out exactly what my ECU can really do. By that I mean what functions can potentially be activated without having to go for aftermarket wizardry, like Autowindow.

I have spoken to four independant SEAT dealerships who give conflicting information or no information at all. The most help I have received is from Sidlow, Horsham, who have booked me in next Tuesday so that they can connect my 2.0TDI Sport to the diagnostic machine and then, after a 30 minutes test, let me know. Of course, I have to pay them for their trouble.

Surely someone must be able to say what can or cannot be activated on the rig without the need to connect it up to find out first.

As I've mentioned on here before I would really love to be able to remotely open/close the windows and fold/unfold the wing mirrors instead of operating the switches inside of the car. can it be so difficult to find out?

The dealership that I bought the car from, obviously prompted by Sidlows willingness to help, have finally offered to find out the capabilities without the need to be connected up first but they have either forgotten to call me or can't be bothered answering a question that they've never been asked before.

Has anyone managed to find out the full potential on their own car's ECU? My car is a 2006 2.0TDI Sport on a 55 plate.

FYI I'm not too keen on DIY solutions as I don't want to mess with the warranty.

Try holding the lock button from your remote control for 5 seconds. Windows will close, mirrors will fold. It works on mine...

COOL! [B)]

Thanks for the tip!

Can you unfold the mirrors using a similar method as I can't seem to get it to do that?

farkas levi, thanks for your reply. I have tried to remotely close the windows and fold the mirrors by holding the close button on the remote for somewhat longer than 5 seconds - it didn't do anything and I gave up before I flattened the remote's battery.

I am taking my car in to the dealership on Monday and they promise to let me know if these things are possible. If they can be programmed then they will do it.

I'll keep you all informed - just in case there is any other saddo out there like me who wants to be a bit flash when there might be someone looking. Oooh, I'm all excited just thinking about it.

I don't know if this helps but make sure that the car is not already locked before you try it. That was my first mistake but it worked once i'd unlocked it first (logical I suppose but there you go).

Hope this helps and sorry if it doesn't! :)

So, if the mirrors fold in when you lock the car and hold the button down.

How do you get the mirrors out again (yes you could hold the unlock button down, but in the rain - do you really want your windows to open too??)

The mirrors unfold again when you insert the key and turn it to contact position. It is not likely to use the mirrors without the engine on.
For me it's just the way I need it.

I'm just back from Sidlow SEAT and they have programmed my ECU so that I can now remotely open/close the windows by using the unlock/lock buttons on the central locking key.

This is after being told yesterday by another dealership that it was not possible. Needless to say I am pleased at the outcome despite the running around that I've had to do and the BS that I've had to listen to.

The secret was acquired right here on this website and I'd like to thank everyone who pointed me towards the codes that needed to be changed in order to make it happen.

The technician at Sidlow was so impressed when I gave him the codes that he didn't charge me the £40 that I was quoted for a half-hour of his time. And to be fair to the first dealership that I tried, I didn't have the codes to give to them at the time.

On the downside (am I too greedy?) I still have not managed to get the mirrors to remotely fold in. Does some genius out there have the codes for this operation? Do codes for this actually exist?

In my LeonFR 2.0 TDI
I'd like to know if you can get the driver side wiperblade to go down first rather than the passenger side wiper blade, ive not taken measurements of them but they look like they are the same length each side.

i can see why they can make the windows action off the fob and not the mirrors, that would require motors you probably dont have, but can you get them, from dealer/scrappy/ebay? and then get the ecu to fold them? even tho there is no internal way you can still fold on the fob,
