after selling my ibiza cupra i bought a bora 2.0 8v, i thought i could handle the lack of power but i'm thinking about 1.8t'ing it.

i bumped into a bloke who said he's breaking a bora turbo so i asked him for a price and he told me to come back today, so this morning i went round there but he wasn't in so i popped the bonnet to have a browse and it now appears the car was part way through a conversion, the bora was not a turbo originally.

there are a few wires here and there, it has a 4wd gearbox fitted for some unkown reason i think it has the correct ecu plugged in but no key or clocks.

so do i need matching ecu, clocks and key?

also i assume i'll need a 2wd flywheel and clutch?

it appears the engine has never been running in the car as the spark plug and coilpack on cylinder number one is laying on the cam cover.

it has a downpipe fitted and intercooler, all of the pipework is plumbed in so that should be ok.

what else will i need to complete this conversion?

what do you think it's worth?

oh the engine code is ARY and i think it's out of a 180bhp TT.

many thanks.

bolt in & play, but if he's given up before it's built - do you have the ability / time to problem find?

I'd look for all the parts that you knew worked & pay a little more - then it's a quick job that won't surprise you!

sounds like it won't run, thats why the plug and coilpack are off and its obviously not firing.

isn't the TT engine a BAM engine code

sounds like the guys given up on trying, as m0rk has said, get a runner ;)

i am a more than capable mechanic, and i'm particularly interested in this one because i think i can get the car for around £550 which is a steal and worth getting the bits after.

obviously the plug and coilpack out means someone has been tring to get a spark out of it, so without the key and clocks i assume its immobilised.

i'm just after information of what i'll need?

in my years of rebuilding gearboxes the 4x4 golf platform cars were in the early years of production so didn't have any experience with them but i'd assume i'd have to get a fwd flywheel and clutch.

i'm sure the tt will have the 6 speed 4wd box so i'll either need to get a

6 speed box fwd or

5 speed box fwd with clutch and flywheel

i asked the bloke what parts he has and he rooted round in the back and dug out some tt clocks but no key.

he bought the car for front end panels and it wasn't running when he bought it, from what i can see with the plug out someone has been trying to get it running/ sparking but i'm thinking without the matching key the ecu will prevent a spark.

i've also heard you can get the ECU decoded or my key coded to the tt ecu but am unsure of this.

oh the tt's were fitted with a number of different engine codes the BAM it the 225bhp model.

Car should run for about 2-3 secs before the immobiliser kicks in! If it dunt then it's not the immobiliser!

You can just pull the transfer gears out of a 4WD box, fit a blanking plate and run it 2WD.

Revo do Immobiliser default code...

I think ARY is an A3 Quattro, early one so maybe K03?

didn't know that about the box, was wondering if the 2.0 8v box would fit but is unlikely iirc.

thanks chaps, my headgasket went today too so really need another lump sharpish as i can't be bothered patching up the 2.0 8v APK lump.
