Hi guys im new to the forum and currently looking at purchasing my first SEAT Leon. I am interested in a Mk2 FR TDI, but i am not sure whether i would benefit from paying the extra for a diesel. I am looking at around a 2007/2008 model. I Travel 5 miles to and from work a day but usually once or twice a month will drive to either london or birmingham or somewhere (around 1.5 hour drive). With this in mind would i have problems with the DPF? hoping for some feedback from someone in the same situation as me. If i would have problems i would probably have to just pay the extra insurance and get the petrol FR.
I am only 21 so insurance isnt my best friend just now lol
Cheers for your help in advance!

First of all....Welcome.

I got my first Leon in December. Love it. I only passed my test in August yet I bought a Leon FR TFSi. Brilliant car. I live in St Andrews and travel to Dundee 7 days a week. Get around 310miles to tank with a little spirited driving. More if I drive sensible all the time. And my insurance is only £950 a year.

My car is also an 07 plate.

Hope this helps

I'm 21 and I've got a diesel fr, I love it and I'll never part with it. My insurance was 1000 for my first year last year with this car (was on business insurance for 3 year) and it's just dropped to 700 this year. Mine is 07 and it's starting to show its age a bit now with a few niggly things so just make sure the car has a good history and has been well looked after.

If you go for a diesel try and get one with the dpf removed because I can pretty much guarantee it will give you problems, timing belt and water pump will be a must too if your going for 07/08.

Cheers for the quick replys! they both helped.
One for james; What sort of spec is your tfsi?
and dodsy how many miles do you get to a full tank roughly and have you got any mods?
ive been warned about the DPF so ill be sure to get one without it just to save the hassle!

Driving 5 miles a day to an from work wouldn't be worth a diesel. The FR TDi isn't made for short town driving. For the mileage you do I'd say petrol.

The most I've had out of a full tank is 460 but I've heard of people getting more, I don't drive like a girl though and that's a mix of short runs round the doors and my 30 mile round trip to work on the motorway.

Mine has had the dpf removed and standard power map, I'd probs get better mpg if I had it remapped but I want my clutch to last.

I wouldn't buy a derv if your only doing 5miles a day it will never get up to temperature which wouldn't be any good for it and you wouldn't benefit from the mpg either , I would buy a petrol tbh .

I bought my car and it has a receipt for a sports clutch and rolling road. No print out from rr session but racing my mates Leon fr(same model) mines was considerably quicker of the mark and through the gears. Not sure if that's cos I'm a better driver or not.

But got a fmic, splitter, induction, springs, remap and alloys planned.

Thinking these alloys

I had a diesel fr about 3-4 years ago and was only doing the same sort of mileage to work and found after awhile the diesel particulate filter kept coming up on the dash a lot so had to drive for 10/15 minutes each time to burn it off and get the light to go out so decided to get a petrol so I didn't have the problem so it's a thought before buying a diesel.
