I am considering trading the LCR for an Audi A3

I'm thinking about the 3.2 V6, I cannot afford a new one but I've seen a few 53/04 plates with about 30K miles that will be in the price range as long as I get the best trade in price for my LCR.

The main reason for considering the 3.2 is its performance figures are comparible to the LCR.

I have not read to much about the 3.2 so if anyone has any informed opinions it would be appreciated.

Thanks

If performance is the main factor, then you may be disapointed changing to a 3.2 A3, I'm not sure what the figures are for the 3.2 A3, but you will find, on the road, the LCR is the quicker car, go test drive one, with a mate sat in your LCR round the corner and compare......!!

Is the LCR quicker due to the 4WD system on the Audi or is it the LCR handles better ?

I agree that 0-60 times are not really relevant today but I wonder which is quicker 0-100 and 50 - 80.

Performance is not my only consideration as I was in my friends A3 the other day and as much as I love my LCR the Audi just felt superior in build quality, its just I would not like a car that is noticeably slower than my LCR.

I dont think that A3 3.2V6 is slower than LCR...atleast not much, if any.
That is true that "feel of quality" in interrior is much better in Audi, but dont know about the built quality.

Im little pissed that my interrior door handles squakes on my Leon Cupra,
it makes it feel cheapo, my friends VW Bora doesnt squeak on the handles.[:@]
BTW...does anybody else have this issue and any ideas how to fix it??

Other than that the car feels quality build machine.

Be aware of the depreciation as it's not as bullet proof as people expect over a couple of years (despite the guides) as a 4k drop is still 4k even if its a smaller percentage of the initial purchase price! (I lost 6k in two years and 12K miles on a 15 month old S3 - £20k down to 14K)

You'll love the quality, hate the running costs (ask Audi about labour rates - even if servicing is every two years, a bill on the day of £400 still hurts) and you'll miss the turbo charged power delivery! I don't reckon that you'll have any big regrets by changing on the whole though.

What about an R32, Focus RS/ST or new Clio RenaultSport ?

guy called leonlad on here has just done the same thing, although his isnt the 3.2 i dont think?!
pm him and ask his opinion?

i certainly dont regreat trading the leon in, the audi is just a different class , interior is 100 times better than the old leon and even the new one.

as for the ride it is not crashy like the fr even with 18`s , i suppose you really do get what you pay for.

servicing is a bit of a worry especially the timing belt change which is due in 15k for me.

maybe i could get the servicing done at a skoda dealer ?

personally i would not go for the 3.2 as the residuals are not as good as the tdi , and paying £1 a litre i know where i would prefer to put my money.

i say buy this one http://www.hedmondson.co.uk/1691/stock.htm

and get revo

I went from a LCR to a 3.2 MKV Golf R32 with DSG and although the performance on paper may be comparable the characteristics of the engine are totally different. The 3.2 is so smooth, especially coupled to the DSG, there is no sensation of speed or acceleration that you get when the Turbo spools up on the LCR, or torque steer, so it does actually feel slow until you look at the speedo. The 3.2 feels slower than the LCR but it isn't and with 4WD it is a bit heavier but the grip in the wet is phenomenal.

The 3.2 is quite a bit more thirsty that the LCR, especially about town.

If you decide to get a A3 try and get one with DSG it's fantastic. I was sceptical until I drove one but after 1/2 hour I was converted. The only thing is because it's so smooth the passenger doesn't get any lurching when changing gear so they think it's slow.

Another thing the V6 sound track is addictive

Well guy's I have done it.

Test drove a 3.2 V6 DSG yesterday and loved it !!

I agree with previous comments that it does not feel as quick as the LCR due to the way the power is delivered but is still pretty quick.

The quality of the interior is so much better than the LCR and I like the understated exterior. The V6 also sounds great.

I know a few of you have mentioned economy but I only get 22MPG from my LCR and reading a few comments from audi forums I do not think it will be much different.

I am happy with the deal I got which was :

04 plate 3.2 V6 DSG (one year left of warranty)
10,000 miles, one owner
Dark Blue Metalic
Leather interior
Xenons
BOSE stereo

I paid £3,800 plus my LCR with 10,500 miles, scuffed alloys and a scratch on the bumper but otherwise in perfect condition.

I should be picking the car up next week.

:D

have i started a trend lol :D
enjoy the car mate

reading audi by any chance ?

May I ask what the startuing price of the A3 3.2 was?

I've had the car for a week now and thought I would post my views.

The DSG makes town driving a lot easier, its the first time I have had an auto so with my average speed on a 7 mile journey being 12mph it really is a more enjoyable drive.
I took it out for a proper play last weekend and was very impressed, in sport mode the take off is quicker than the LCR and it feels as fast once moving although as the LCR was REVO'd it probably isn't but for me it does not feel slower so I am happy.
Handling wise it felt more planted, again I appreciate that enthusiats complain of understeer due to the weight of the V6 but tbh I do not have the skills or confidence to push the car far enough where this becomes apparent.
The V6 sound great.
It is nice being able to put your foot down without wheelspin/torque steer especially in the wet.
The MPG seems on a par with the LCR and insurance was only £50pa more so it should not cost me anymore to run until it comes to the servicing costs:censored:
Had 1 minor issue with the setup of the remote locking but that has been sorted by Audi FOC.

Interestingly I have signed up to a few audi forums and asked what 1/4 mile times a 3.2 gets but it appears as a rule audi drivers are not into this as no one seems to know

Oh well I guess I will have to buck the trend and attend a RWYB event to find out.

sounds great. i envy you! i didnt like the new A3 at first but they are really growing on me. same with the golf!
The v6 & DSG is a winning combo, i would love to have a go in one.

I think the audi people are "generally" older, more mature than the LCR owners. Im not saying they are all young and immature, but the sort of person who goes out (generally) and buys a V6 semi auto A3 (cost wise aswell) probably aint to bothered about 1/4mile times. its not what the car is about really is it.
