first time driver here so i don’t wanna hear to just switch to a cupra, i would if i could
but i’m trying to do my 1.616v up as nice as my bank allows, and i’ve heard 4-1 manifold and exhaust is a good shout, as mines is quite quiet atm and is in need of a new exhaust anyway
any recommendations on manifolds/exhausts to buy as i’d be able to install myself, or would i be better getting it done in a shop?
i’m open to any other mods to make it look better, cheers C38AC4CE-AC54-4728-8992-868F9ECCFA38.jpeg D2DD6A42-D4B6-44F5-9B0D-96C5F4616167.png

Morning. Just had a search and couldn't find much to be honest.

But something my mates and i used to do in the early 90s, when we were young and money was tight.
Sounded awesome on a Mk4 Escort XR3I LOL.

Depending on your skills.
Remove the rear box and cut a large hole in the top half. Do the top half so when its refitted you cant see the job when its back on the car.
Remove all the sound proofing packaging but leave any tubing you may find in there. Weld the top back on. Or weld some 1mm metal back on if the original piece removed is beyond use.
Refit rear box.
Sounds an easier job than it is as its a bit of a faff but if you're handy with a welder/grinder its worth a try.

Gets a decent sound on acceleration and pops on over run.

They're the same platform as the MK4 Golf and Audi A3. So maybe worth a search under those.

Just wash it polish it and drive it.

there is zero point trying to mod it for speed.

I agree.
At 17, even a cone air filter will cause you problems with insurance.

How about getting some proper detailing stuff.

dual action polisher and making your car the best example of a 1.6 around.

i have OCD with cleaning and to me nothing looks better than a swirl free car.

also regarding speed and bhp in these times it’s not really worth having a fast car, just gets you banned faster.

camera’s are literally everywhere these days, they can even snap you at night now.

i used to speed about but nowadays after getting many speeding tickets and it now being based on salary in Scotland i don’t want any more £400-500 fines for speeding as it really hits the wallet.

i no longer speed as no point.

I used to tear it up in my little KA, got a letter from the police basically saying we’ll be watching this car... bought a Leon and now I drive reasonably 100% of the time 😂

I like the front bumper, might be worth looking for Cupra sideskirts to complement it (although you won't get the same colour I think).

Exhaust... either a Milltek (it should fit but you might need to additional adapter) or go proper old school and fit a Cherry Bomb back box.
