What is Engine Slack?

Hi every1, I was gettin me cambelt changed today and also to investigate this tapping noise comming from the top half of the engine but i got a call before to say its not the tappets its got or it is 'ENGINE SLACK'.

Could any bright person out there tell me what engine slack is?

Worn components ie worn cam shafts etc.. bearings runners where the camshaft sit. . . could mean anything.

thanks for the reply bud, I worded that wrong! its not engine slack its 'ENGINE SLAP' lol sorry for the confusion but will this tappin av got from my engine cause any harm in the long term? or should i investigate it further ? thanks again

thanks for repyin i have a 1.4 8v 60 bhp, 85torque lol errrrmmm its 44 kw, engine code AUD and its dne 52.000 miles.

no way your engine has piston slap unless who ever as owned it has ragged it from cold.. mine has done 120k miles and its a bit rought around the edges but runs fine!

you have piston slap, tapping noise from the bottom end, its very commen in the 1.4 8v, its when the piston rings have worn so the pistons have alot more movement in the bore causing a slapping noise.

repair, new piston rings! expensive and big job, not worth doin really it will still run fine just noisey

gdgd lol would changin then oil help and puttin some engine treatment in ? its gets its oil and filter changes every 2 months or should i nt bother, is 162.5 quid gd for gettin the timin belt and tensioners and water pump a gd price?

no the oil wont effect it now the damage is done. yeh it seems a good price

did a 2000 mile AKK motor cos of it - ordered a replacement short motor and fitted to find it was even worse !!!

found culprit though - new replacement bottom end had been supplied all fitted up crank rods pistons all in place - but no rings ???

Sounds familiar, or you get the usual back order on something that holds the whole job up
