Hello,

Just trying to sort my ScanGauge II out and i need my car data inputting to it.

It asks me for the size of fuel tank. So i looked in the handbook and it says 55 litre + 7

Now, does this mean that the tank size is 55 litres or 62 litres ?

I'm presuming the 7 litres is a reserve for when the fuel lamp comes on, but i'm still not sure whether to enter 55 litres into the ScanGauge or 62 litres !!. Obviously these 2 different values will cause a small % error if set wrong.

Cheers

put it this way,

for those that drive for a good distance once the red light comes on can fairly easily get 58 litres in. bit more is not uncommon.

In my experience if you fill up within 5 miles of the red warning light coming on, you will get about 55 litres in there.

Why does the scan need to know the tank size? presumable weight?
In which case id say put 55 litres in. Id imagine the weight on the leon is listed able to run and not a dry weight. It may even include a driver.

Cheers Andy,

I presume it is so that the "miles to tank empty" feature works correctly. Once it knows the size of the tank and it knows how much fuel is being used, it subtracts the 2 ?. Not entirely sure why it needs to know, but it asks for the info on setting it up !

I have set it up as a 55 litre tank, but as my readings were a little inaccurate it got me thinking was i supposed to enter 62 litres !.

Best Regards,
Andy

Just been onto the man at ScanGauge. He recommends for the initial calibration process that i fill up the car until the petrol pump automatically cuts off. This will (apparently) calibrate the ScanGauge closer to the readings i get off the on-board trip computer in the car.

So, a bit of a daft question here (as i've never done this before!). Will all garage forecourt petrol pumps cut out automatically once the tank is full ??.

I know that sounds a bit duh!, so pardon my ignorance, but never done it before and never really thought about it !

Don't really want the tank to overspill on my shoes !! - the other thing going thro my mind was, can you fill a car too full this way?

Best Regards

you have never filled your tank?

well ill give you a tip, petrol will ge up again in the very near future.. so may be another reason to fill up.

but yes, to answer your question, pumps automatically cut off. (but make sure you have the pump in the neck properly. You can usually wait a bit then add a bit more, but not alot :)

It doesn't hold 62 litres no.

Ive actually tested this out by breaking down after running out of fuel:redface: Honestly you would not belive, about 20 yards from the forecourt.

I pushed the car to the pump and got just over 59 litres back in. This was going past the clicks until i had a little drop running down the side.

The stated size of the tank is 55 litres btw, i think when the light comes on, it has 7 litres left, ie the light will come on at 48litre usage +7 = 55l

Cheers Mitchy, i was beginning to think it was 55 litres. Anyway, that's what i had set on the ScabGauge anyway, so i don't need to alter it.

Just filled it up till the pump stopped and the needle has never come off the maximum mark !!!!. Think the needle can only reach max and not go beyond this.

Andrew
