Hi All,

Well i have just bought a Mk2 09 Leon 2.0 16V TFSI FR and i would like to ask the people in a know a couple of things.

1 - What kind of problems should i look out for?
2 - Should i put this in to a garage and have then run over this to make sure i've not been sold a lemon
3 - What should i be looking to mod first?

I have seent the Bluefin chip which is temping but i dont want to just dive in there would out some help/pointers first.
Its also got some 17" but i think i will keep them for track days and get some 18" on there.

I will be looking to get this to Crail to see what this can run in the 1/4 mile before i start upgrading

Cheers in avance for any assist.

firstly, its an awesome car!

what you will find though, if you like boost, it will like its oil! so keep an eye on it! i check my oil every tank of fuel. (abit over kill, but you really need to keep an eye on it)

it will stutter on start up, its a tfsi thing so dont worry.

should have 17s on it as standard, or additional upgraded to 18s.

body wise, they're pretty solid, i cant see you having an issue there so dont worry! did you buy it from a dealer or private?

and yes, a remap makes all the difference, i personally went for a REVO as it was closer than anything else, but APR is also highly rated on this forum. (tbh i would have gone APR if it wasnt 5 hours away).

You bought a car without knowing what faults to look out for??? Did you just buy it because it looked nice???

Hi big eck
Yeah its a pretty blue colour and i kicked the tyres which is the real test of any car.

I have taken it for a test drive and already spotted that there is a noise when getting over 30mph so i know the alighment is off and i have asked the dealership to get this fixed but cause this is in the dealership i've not fully had time alone to get into all the wee nooks of the machine yet.

At a glance it appears ok but this is my first Leon so i have not lived with it so not sure what to expect.

I have had a Ibiza for 5 years and its solid so i'm hoping the Leon will be the same.

Alignment wont cause any noises, unless something is worn and knocking.

Agreeing with tonto on all points really lol

Engine is a good un! Just keep an eye on said oil... Mines a weekly check...

I haven't got a remap yet, looked into it and the blufin is an extra 40ish bhp the revo will you get 60 ish... The bluefin is what £370 where as the revo done a rolling road is £500 ish...

You won't be disappointed :)

Cheers tonto

As mentioned, i am getting this from a dealer ship so i want to cover all everything before i drive away with it.

there was a slight chunk out the wall of the tyre when i saw it which i have asked to get change but i though that the noise was from the wheels as its noticable once you get over 30mph but even when the car is out of gear and still traveling you can hear the noise so i didn't think this was machanical.

I'm not a machanic, more of a software guy but i have had some exp in cars but nothing major.

Cheers

Check what tyres are on it, and the remaining tread. they come as standered (well used to) on Pirelli PZR, which when under approx 4mm remaining tread make a rumbling noise.

if the chunk of rubber missing isnt exposing any cords, they might argue that its still legal. but be best to check that they do change it before you drive away.

also, check under the bonnet and see if the bonnet lining is sagging, or mouldy. rain water gets in through the scuttle and sits inside causing it to droop and turn green / white. there is a recall for this - they wont tell you but if you know it they should change it and sort it for you FOC!

Yeah, i have already seen post about checking the scuttle.

The cord is not showing but it looks pretty bad and if they try and leave it on then al take ot to the cop shop and get them to check it and see what they have to say, its its illegal then al let the dealership know and to get a new tyre.
I dont thinks its on Pirelli's but it was not some crap brand on them and there was a good bit of tread on the tyres.

It seemt in good shape and getting serviced every 5k.

check inside edge of rear tyres for any unusual wear. the noise could be wheel alignment it's a common problem. check air con works too ! good choice of colour, it'll be worth another 10bhp.....:D
