Hi all,

I just wanted to get some opinions on what to do with my current situation.

So I got a 16 plate Leon FR and it turned out that it had been built incorrectly (parking sensors were missing) so I ended up having to wait for another one to be built. SEAT were kind enough to provide compensation and allowed me some extras on the newly built car.

After waiting for and receiving the newly built, and registered, 66 plate car I noticed on the first day an unusual noise from the gearbox area. I took it back and they said that a heat plate was catching on the gear selector...and they rectified this. So I'm thinking I'm finally at a point where everything is now as it should be...

After picking the car up I noticed that when it had been in to be fixed that the steering wheel and gearknob had been damaged/scratched. With everything that had happened I said I wasn't happy and would like this fixed. They tried to fix it and in turn actually made it worse. I'm now at a stage where I'm waiting for a new steering wheel and gearknob to arrive so these can be replaced.

I've not had much luck since the start, but I'm concerned about getting these changed as the car won't match a 'factory' build and it's barely 6 months old!

What do you think I should do with this situation? Apologies for the long post but I want to try and get the best resolution out of this.

Cheers.

You seem to have two issues here

One issue with seat uk giving wrong spec and which they rectified and also covered other issues under warranty (I presume) and another with the dealer damaging your car

The second issue can only be resolved by the dealer to return the vehicle to the state it was or for which a replacment or compensation should be given

Let them replace the bits, it will still be to spec. Then forget about it.

Yeah, the damage caused by the dealer is obviously something I'm taking up directly with them. It's just frustrating that it even happened.

My initial plan was to just get the parts replaced and then just forget about it all. I'm just concerned that I could potentially encounter further issues down the line with either of the parts. Will it really be to spec though?

As long as it's all original vw group parts then it's to spec and if there are any issues in the future you got warranty to rely on.

Do try and get a fuel card or high street vouchers out of them if you can though :)

Yeah it'll all definitely be original VW parts but even the service manager was being funny about it and said it may sit the same at it did before. Not sure if that was him trying to get out of actually having to order the parts and pay for labor etc.

Trouble is, because I've had these issues from the beginning (through no fault of my own obviously), the service manager at my branch said they will refuse to work on my car again after this and that I'll have to go to a different dealer for work or services etc. Seems extremely unprofessional right?

As others have said, the new parts should be identical to the original parts and should look / work exactly the same, and be covered for the duration of the manufacturers warranty. I think the comments made by the service manager about the replacement parts 'not sitting the same' was an attempt to put you off having them replaced at their expense.

Can they refuse to work on your car? I don't know if they can, although based on your experience, I'd be looking to find another dealer for any future servicing and repair work anyway.

Based on your experience to date with this dealer, when you take the car in for the work to be done, I'd recommend getting them to inspect the car with you to agree its condition and that it's unmarked and as new before they do the work, and to check it after the work's been done to make sure it's not been damaged whilst in their possession. Hopefully, when the work's been done you'll then be able to put this experience behind you and get on with enjoying your car!

Yeah I did think that. I just wanted to be sure as I really wouldn't want it to put me into an endless spiral downwards of continual issues! Haha.

With what's happened I was thinking about going to a different dealer in the future, it's just that this current one is so close and convenient.

I'll make sure I go through the condition of the car with them before it goes in so that we're clear from both sides. Hopefully once this is done I can fully appreciate and enjoy the car!

(Although I have been looking at the Cupra.......)

Tell them you are interested in the Cupra but that you'll be buying it elsewhere due to the attitude of their service manager.

The first dealers I visited when I was shopping for an FR 150, insisted on a £1000 deposit and was really insistent that I had to have the Diamondbrite treatment.. Ended up going elsewhere instead.

Hi D3RV15H

Sorry to hear about your problems which are of particular interest to me because I think I might have ended up with your former car (was it a white 140 DSG FR with a spoiler?), so I have the same dealer. So far, I haven't had any problems with them, but I am due for my first service soon.

As a matter of interest, if I do have your former car, did it have 18-inch alloys when you had it? If you look at used FRs on the SEAT Web site at the moment, almost all are fitted with the 18-inch wheels which, I suspect, were surplus with the arrival of the new model, and have been fitted to the used cars to make them look sexier. For me, the 18-inch wheels are too blingy and make the already firm ride even firmer.

I hope you resolve your problems.

Well if you do have my original car then what a crazy coincidence. It was a white FR DSG with spoiler, but they're 150 not 140. Out of curiosity what dealer did you get it from and what's the reg (obviously if you're comfortable mentioning it).

I really like the 18's, I think they suit the car really well. I had considered getting the black alloys as I had the black/white combo on my last car but preferred the non black alloys on this model. I wanted a sporty model so I liked the firmer ride

I'm still waiting on an update to get my parts replaced

Sorry, my mistake - it is a 150. I'd rather not give my reg number but I'm pretty sure that it is the same car - first registered May '16, has reversing camera and rear parking sensors, but none at the front, and Seat Sound (which I'm a bit disappointed with in terms of the bass sound). And judging from where you live, I bought it from your local dealer.

Best of luck with your parts replacements.

Sounds about right to be fair! Can't believe that, how crazy! Wonder how much you grabbed that for, a nice bargain I hope! I only had 1 accident in it as well Joking of course.

I know what you mean about the Seat Sound, but at least it's slightly better than stock aye. What you doing about the wheels, sticking with the 18's?

Cheers mate.
