The Audi A4 comes with an optional 3.0L TDI engine I am curious if anyone knows if it is possible to fit this engine in an A3 and if so does anyone know what kind of acceleration, and what kind of gas mileage the new set up would have?

Gas mileage? I doubt you'd get any mileage at all to be honest.

I'd be interested to see the conversion go ahead though. Always interesting to see what people can squeeze into smaller cars.

I expect it's a job that could be done, but theres alot to consider on top of sticking a bigger engine in.
Better suspension setup.
Bigger brakes
Strut braces
ARB's
Then theres the extra insurance costs, labour cost, having to get around withou that car......
Just BUY the car with the engine you want IMO.

I would imagine the lump would struggle to fit in the A3 bonnet... Probably need custom mounts made, bulkhead "modifying" - and relocation of some ancillaries to random parts of the car. Imagine the rad, battery, water reservoir, washer bottle, may all have to move to the boot?

3.2 in the A3 petrol engine is transverse

3.0 in the A4 Tdi is longtudinal

just ain't gonna happen without pointless amounts of work

This question pops up in some form or other every 3 months or so.
Never get anyone saying they went ahead and done it though..... odd.
