heard a lot of good things about autobulbs direct - i've used them in the past and the've been good.
Regarding their own brand of bulbs though - no idea. I use philips bulbs from http://www.powerbulbs.co.uk/

they've been great. Was only when I compared them to an LC with std lights I realised how good they were :) But now I've seen HIDS even my philips look ultra shoddy :(

lol

i've got zenons for the main driving light but not full beam or side lights, bought the car like that, but i will definately be upgrading my full beam and side lights as the yellow standard light looks rubbish.

A few of my mates have just purchased a proper HID conversion kit, which are awesome, very very bright, and road legal too :)They got them for a lot less than RRP but still not cheap at £150. Generic fitment for H7 bulbs, though you can get them for H1 bulbs too :)

Anyway, backl to the original point of this thread.... which was not, do they look good or what have your mates got....

Good idea or not?

Likley to burn out wiring or not?

Better to go to halfords and get some or not?

Blah de blah, usual questions!

they deffo illegal are they?? claims to be stamped as legal!

"Proper" xenon/ gas discharge units require headlamp power wash, and automatic height adjusters to be fitted as well. We do a conversion kit to fit the BMW 5's:censored: the kit consists of 2 headlamp units, headlamp wash kit and auto adjust kit, cost around £1200

If you fit a conversion kit, and do not fit the other 2 items, it may be classed as illegal.

Please correct me if I am wrong though...

Fair enough. Assumed it would be ok as its just aset of "plug in and play" bulbs to replace the ones already in there! Assuming you looked.

Sorry, I did look, I can see no problem with these, as you say they are direct replacements for the standard bulbs, similar to the ones I fitted to my Cupra, just brighter.

Good price too

So maybe a good replacement then, given the price! assuming more will appear on ebay soonish. Just worried about if they going to burn out the wiring or lens covers and if "old bill" may get intererested.

I fitted some 30% brighter xenon filled bulbs to my last car, a 2003 Leon Cupra, because they lights were rubbish:( they were fitted within a few weeks of me buying the car, and I never changed them in 3.5 years. never had a problem, apart from the odd flash from oncoming cars:headhurt:

Stu

I'm currently using the exact same bulbs! Easy to fit and produce a nice clear blue/white light, but they are not very bright! A bargain none the less! Had no problems with mine!

i have the same sort of bulbs fitted in my missus ibiza.they work well very bright and look pure white.also have the nice effect of looking blue when you stare at them.
Only thing is with hers are the silver tip of the bulb has started to peel off as they must be painted or something.good for the money though and do look the part

ive got Osram SilverStars (+50% brightness Xenon Gas filled) in my headlights at the moment. Light is much brigther than standard but it doesnt look like ive got "proper" xenons fitted - you need blue tinted bulbs for that and they reduce the amount of light on the road so i went for effect rather than look.

Regarding Xenon conversion kits you can get them for about £200-300 for the bulbs, wiring and ballasts. A quick look on the net will find a number of people willing to sell you these. I looked into it last year and its not a bad idea if you are willing to part with the money for it.

Going back to the law aspect - the rules that say you must have adjusters and washers are for new cars. The only thing that governs what you can or cant fit to an older car is the MOT and there is nothing in that about Xenon lights. Having said that if you had badly adjusted lights which were causing a problem to other road users then i would expect the police might have somethign to say about it.
