Wheel spacers - Cupra 280

Can anybody advise what wheel spacers are needed for the Cupra 280?

I've always felt the wheels on this car are too recessed into the wheel arches. I'm looking to bring them out a bit for a better stance.

10mm? 15mm?

Will I need longer bolts or anything?

I'm also interested in hearing how this modification might affect the handling - positively, negatively or not at all?

I run 11mm front and 15 rear on my 2017 FR, it has cupra black line 19" wheels and sits on Eibach pro kit springs. Longer bolts are a must. Hope I helped. Send me your email in private message so I'll send you pics if you want.

When I dropped it at the shop they gave it a hard run down to see if there is any rub on the arches, knocking etc. After that we chose right size of the spacers to see what is ideal so there is no rub. There is no knocking whatsoever due to the lowering and spacers just standard seat rattles here and there.
Handling improved, car leans a lot less in the corners and feels much more stable at high speed. For now, I don't have any problems.

Just to check - are you using 35mm bolts on the front and 40mm bolts on the rear?

With those same 19" wheels and 235/35-tires and 10mm spacers all around, I did rub some both front and rear.
Mine is lowered on H&R springs. One thing to add is that spacers can get stuck to the hub over time. Especially if you use them over winter.

The standard wheels on the Cupra 280 stick out a bit more than the FR and that is why the Cupra has four plastic winglets fitted to the wheel arches as standard, to keep it legal for conditions and use. If you add spacers without modifying the arches surely you are running the risk of failing an MOT or being stopped by police.

I thought exactly that - but looking at my 290 just now, there seems to be a decent gap between the tyre wall and the end of the wheel arch. Will try and measure to see how much of a gap there is front and back.

I'm just worried about rubbing and knocking noises if any spacers are fitted.

I’m interested in fitting spacers on my 280 but have the same worries as you about rubbing etc. Did you get this done in the end?

Howdy!

Nope I didn’t do it in the end. The Cupras have a wider wheel stance compared to the FRs and I’m going to wait until I’ve decided on what suspension to go for, and see how it’s looking then.

I have a 280 cupra too I got the st kit from awesome gti 12mm all round the stance is perfect also passed mot.

no there perfect ,they are 12.5mm not 12mm the kit costs me £225

The front has a wider stance as standard then the rear so you could go for 10mm front and 12mm rear which would even it out a bit and you wouldn't get any rubbing.

Damian, What's the difference between tapered and radius bolt heads on the H&R kit you offer? What I mean is, is it specific to the car or is it purely aesthetic?

Ones tapered and ones radius, if you confirm what wheels you're running we'll be able to tell you what bolt head you need.
