I dont understand people using 95 because its cheaper. It makes all of about £2-£2.50 difference in a full tank in my LCR putting in momentum 99. Its better for performance, fuel economy and the engine. Petrol is so pricey anyway I dont think it makes a difference. If you filled up your car once a month its an increase of £30 a year!! Small price to pay I reckon. Plus you get clubcard points :)

V-Power as I have a fuel card at work for shell only... Used to use Tesco Momentum for the clubcard points but I used to get engine light all the time and error code about the carbon thing in the engine... since switching to V-Power I see the error maybe once every few months

I've used BP Ultimate 97, Momentum and V-Power in my Cupra in the 18 months I've owned it. Ultimate is ok but seems to run ever so slightly rough from time to time. Momentum is good but IMHO you always run the 'supermarket fuel' risk, and I've tanks of it that were fine, and tanks that ran rough like the Ultimate.

I've never had a problem with the V-Power, and although it's the same octane value as Momentum it seems to get more out of my engine- it feels a bit more responsive for some reason, and runs smoothly 100% of the time. It's the only thing I will put in my tank now, to the extent that I drive past a BP garage a mile from my house to do the 20 mile round trip to the Shell garage...! :D

Vpower all the way. Used Momentum on several tank fulls in some of the JAP cars I had and they weren't as responsive.

Also anyone remember the 102RON fuel that BP released years ago is that still around?

My FR TFSI didn't like Momentum (at the time actually Tesco 99 Octane; they rebadged it later) as much as V Power. I understand the Tesco stuff has more ethanol in it to boost the RON rating and isn't as good for the car. I'm not sure if that's really the reason but the car certainly behaved better on the Shell stuff, so I don't really care. To be fair, Tesco 99 was better than using any 95 RON though... the car used to stutter a bit on that and wasn't as good mpg either. The cost premium for V Power over standard wasn't cancelled out by the mpg increase but the remaining difference was easily worth it for the smooth and more responsive running. :)

But having to use V Power was one of the multiple reasons I decided to turn tree hugger and chop the FR for an Ecomotive. The free tax disc is a nice little bonus but it's the >£2k fuel and insurance saving that compensates for the sedentary pace. :D

I don't think 'performance' diesel fuels are worth it though (even for sporty models). They generally give worse mpg than standard diesel and the cetane rating of V Power Diesel is actually lower than FuelSave Diesel. Both Shell fuels are good quality and both contain engine cleaning additives. V Power Diesel is manufactured using a GTL process which means it smells and looks better. But nicer smelling/looking diesel should be pretty much bottom of the list of factors when choosing a fuel IMHO...

Tesco momentum uses 5% ethanol. UK shell v-power has no ethanol in it.

Ethanol provides a better burn and has a higher calorific value than petrol. So more power and mpg.

Therefore momentum is better. Also in all tests i have seen momentum has made the best power even sometimes better than BP ultimate 102 octane

Shell now use ethanol also

‘Shell, like many other fuel suppliers, has begun blending ethanol into some Unleaded grades, including Shell V-Power at Stanlow, to comply with the legal obligations of the RTFO’ (Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation)

UK 99 ron shell v power still has no ethanol in it only 100 ron v power uses an e10 blend of ethanol it is very rare in UK

I live in Greece. My car is a new Leon Cupra R Mk2 remapped to stg1 by Revo. Most of the time I use BP ultimate "100". I think this type of petrol is a 99 (or lower) RON fuel, marketed here in Greece as "100".
Anyway, as I use the liquid Cube device which can serve as a primitive diagnostic tool, I can tell that with B8T7F7 values on the SPS I get no timing corrections or any fault codes. May I rest in peace?

PS.: Now that I am used to BP ultimate, I may try Shell V-Power "Racing" (that's how the highest RON Shell petrol is called here) for a change, but I doubt whether I'll see any differences...

Why are Shell telling people that it does then?

This was shells response when asked

realistically v power/ Super unleaded/momentum whatever is usually about 5-7p a litre more, assume your fillin up 40-50 litres? (to the brim from empty)

Your only spending an extra £2-3.50 more a tank!

Thats why i always fill with V power/Momentum!
