Which Haynes Manual? '05 Leon TDi FR

Hi all,

My gearbox is in the process of destroying itself so need to get it out & get it rebuilt asap.

I know there is no manual for the Leon, but understand the Golf Mk4 is basically the same car....Can anyone advise which Haynes manual I need that covers the following engine / 'box codes: Engine: ARL, Gearbox: FMH. Do the Haynes manuals cover gearbox removal / refit?

Are there any other manuals around that might be useful?

They are on the shelf in Halfords - go and have a look, or look online. Most the guides will tell you which vehicles they cover, little bit of investigation work will reveal which golf models had the same 'box. (I'd start with the 150pd gt tdi if I were you).

from memory the halfords ones are wrapped in cellophane so not ideal for flicking thru - wanted to avoid a wasted trip ideally.

Have looked on the haynes website & there are 3 manuals which 'may' be suitable but i wasn't sure which one as it doesn't make it clear on their website which one i'd need for my engine / box (there are no references to codes).

Have emailed Haynes & awaiting a reply but thought i might try on here - was hoping that someone might already have sussed it out & be able to share the information.

i bought the latest haynes manual for the mk4 golf, iirc it lists the ARL engine in there. let me go check brb


yep its go the diesel engines list of

agp, aqm, agr, ahf, alh, asv, ajm, arl, asz, atd, auy and axr, phew!

your box is an O2M Type and it lists the removal procedure

the one you want is a BLUE haynes one that covers models from 2001 to 2003 (x to 53)
haynes manual ref number 4169

Won't be an idiots guide mate, gotta be at least 4 spanners!! Lol, I find Haynes manuals just confuse me and they tell you to take stuff off u don't need to!
