Hi Guys,

I'm a new user who is looking for a new car and a Leon is top of my list. I'm currently running a bag of nails which is a 2003 1.4 Peugeot 206 and I'm looking for something with more performance (not difficult) and a nicer drive/interior.

We went to a dealer in Derby today and looked at a used 56 1.9 TDI Reference which has 3K on the clock and is an ex-demo car for £12K. I'd not considered a diesel before but the salesman said that they're the best cars in the range - not sure how true that is.

Anyway, having looked through the brochure, I think I'd rather have a nicer spec interior so I was looking at the Stylance or maybe even the FR.

So, my question is, which is the sweet spot at the £14K price range? By the looks of it I could get a 1.9 TDI Stylance new or maybe even a FR 2nd hand.

Any advice appreciated since I know nothing about cars :)

Cheers

James

Is that the reference sport? That has pretty much the same interior as the reference isn't it? I was looking for something a bit better spec'd such as the Stylance or above

same spec on gadgets but different interior to reference alternativly go for a ex demo sport like mine which has a few more bits than the reference sport
ie esp electric rear windows 17'' wheels etc

So is the sport a discontinued model because I don't see it in the brochure or on the seat website? If so, is it the performance which makes it better than the current models?

yep sport is discontinued now it was a stop gap until the fr was ready in this country . It is still availiable in other countrys as the sport +
Performance is the same 140 sport diesel

Thanks for the replies. So by the sounds of it the 2.0 (140hp) is considerably better than the 1.9 (105hp). Is that right? Is the 1.9 not even worth considering?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm still learning about all this.

When I test drove the golf the 140 felt so much nicer and smoother than the 105.. You really had to drive the 105 harder to get up to speed..

In the end I went for the 170FR though..

I paid about £14k for my 2.0 TDi Reference Sport in September last year. It was the car they had in the showroom and it only had 100 miles on the clock. OK it was pre-registered, but it saved a few £'sss so i wasn't that fussed.
Car has now has nearly 13k miles on the clock and the performance is getting slightly better along with better mpg.
