Just noticed that Which have reviewed a few diesel additives inc Millers....

This is the review for those who don't subscribe !

Millers Diesel Power Sport 4 (500ml)* £11.99
Fuel additive's claims
Increases cetane by up to four numbers
Increases power – up to 17.5% more bhp
Increases mpg by up to 7%
Reduces exhaust emissions – 70% less smoke, 20% less carbon
Treats 500 litres of diesel

Findings
Cost per treated litre of standard diesel: £1.08
Extra cost per tankful: £1.44
Cetane: up by 3.5 numbers
Power, torque and fuel economy: no significant change
We say
Millers pretty much lives up to its cetane rating claims, but it offers no power or economy benefits. Some emissions fell, but not during urban use. This contrasts with a small increase in soot, but only under motorway conditions.

Is it worth it? No.

Can't say I am suprised by their findings....

I have read the same article in Which? magazine. They probably did not run several tanks of the stuff to make the additive effective. Millers do state it takes at least 250-300 miles for the additive to have any effect. Out of the 4 Diesel ones they tested, the only one that had a marginal affect on performance was PD-5 Fuel Treatment. It only increased the Cetane by 1.4 numbers, but increased torque by (up to) 1.7%. The verdict to say if it was worth it was Probably not.

All except Redex were cheaper than Super Diesel. When they tested Super fuels last year they found no performance increase.

In small print under millers they state there is a new stuff called Millers Diesel Power ECOMAX. It is now on Millers website with new Petrol additive Millersoils.net - Power ECOMAX. Has anyone bought/used this stuff?

I've a remapped 140 and have always run it on Millers. I can tell the difference, especially with cheapo Morrisons diesel. Cleaner, smoother, quieter. Period.
I've subscribed to Which for 20 years. Don't believe everything they say. "Best buys" aren't always the case in my experience. And of course they didn't test on a VAG engine!

I agree. We have subscribed to Which? for at least 20 years and for most things we try to buy the best buy. We have bought most 'White goods' and a lot of electrical household stuff from their recommendations. However there are some things such as HiFi, computers and or course Cars we would consult the specialist magazines for.

Getting back on topic: I have just seen a repeat on 'Dave' of 5th Gear tested Super fuels against a supermarket one. They found no difference in a small standard N/A car. However there was an definite in power (5%) and Torque (11%) when using Shell Optimax in a Subaru Impreza.

Just got round to reading the article. Like Jim H we are also long-time Which? subscribers and agree with Jim - some items are best left to the specialists. Their tests on car tyres are often well wide of the mark too...

We've used Millers for many years in Pug 309 GLD, 2 x ZX TD's, 3 x Leon TDI's and a Yaris 1.4D4D. If you buy it to get more performance or power or mpg, you may well be disappointed. But if you buy it and use it (reasonably) regularly to keep the system and injectors clean then it's worth it. The technical guys in "What Diesel" always recommend using it on a regular basis too.

It is always difficult to tell whether things like this work as there is bound to be an element of placebo about them. However I do use this and I think it does improve help the engine to run smoother.

Many people question products like this but I think they work, even if not to quite the same degree as the bottles can claim. Have used similar stuff on a neglected petrol arosa as the power(!) delivery was jerky and it practically eliminated this.

For the price it works out at it is worth paying in my opinion, if it turns out to have no effect its not like I have lost much!?

To be honest I've only ever used Millers in my engine, so maybe I'm biased. I just feel it does 'something' good overall.

My car has an excellent response and no or very little smoke. MPG has always been in the high 50's early 60's. I'm very happy with this performance.

I also reckon my 20 mile run to work is a combined mix of engine use to achieve the listed MPG.

I always take these reviews with a pinch of salt. It's hardly a 'real world' test is it??

Cheers
