hi folks recently purchased a 55 plate leon tdi and have noticed a whistle like noise at low revs any suggestions.

It's probably just the turbo it's quite normal

I have a 55 plate leon tdi and mine is the same, just thought it was the turbo spinning up?

I had one turbo replaced under warranty but now when the engine is cold the whine/whistle has come back.

If it needs replacing again, a little upgraded unit will be going in.

I silent turbo is a pants turbo that couldn't blow its way out of a wet paper bag.

A little whistle is what you want.

^^^^An FR tdi with no turbo noise, you must have your tunes up loud then. All the FR tdi's that I tested made some whistle noise.

Will have another closer listen with no music then but the noise must be fairly slight though but as I said it defo works.

They normally make a little noise when they are cold. sort of a whistle or american police car sort of noise. It's all normal, It's not a problem unless it drowns out the derv clatter

The derv clatter as you so aptly put it is not heavily noticeable on mine either.

Ditto. 2006 TDI Sport does the same thing here...spooks passengers that aren't aware of it as well.

My cousin has a Golf GT 170 and that doesn't have the whine.

Love the turbo whistle but 2 years on still look in the rear view mirror to check I'm not being followed by plod!

Also had the funny issue of people trying to find the back door handles

wish i knew what you guys were talking about, the only noises i get are more of a rumble sometimes or even life the exhaust is blowing or something..... its my first diesel car so new to it all.....


wish mine made the noise though! haha
