Why did the cupra ditch the 1.4tsi and go back to a 1.8T?

Sorry I've been out the loop when it comes to cars as I have been so happy with my Exeo. Just looking about the other day online and realised the Ibiza had gone back to using a 1.8T for the cupra instead of the 1.4 with supercharger and turbo and wondered what the reason was? In fact it looks like they have stopped with the supercharger all together. VW have a 1.5tsi coming this year, do you think they will use this for the FR and keep the 1.8tsi for the cupra going forward?

Because of the common issues with the 1.4TSI which I'm sure you'll be able to find a lot of information on in the forum!

They will be using it for the FR I believe and who knows what they'll use for the Cupra, I've heard rumours that they could drop the S1 2.0TFSI in it, which would be insane. But they're just rumours!

Yeah a 2.0tsi would be mental. Im just surprised there were so many issues with that engine. I take it the 1.4tsi in the FR isnt supercharged then along with the rest of the tsi range? Im actually surprised they went back to using 1.8's in general. I thought using 2.0 would make more sense as they already produce them for the golf, leon etc. But then i thought with the big shift toward turbo cars in general i thought a 1.6T or tsi would do the trick for a Ibiza sized car.

Agreed, can't see it happening though IMO. Yeah that's right, just turbo in the FR's, they also come with the 1.4 ACT now.

It's the same engine that's in the Leon FR, Polo GTI and A3 as far as I'm aware!

New polo gti has the 1.8 or is getting it from what I've been reading. I just would have thought 1.6t/si would be perfect now for performance and economy and could be used in many other models in the VW range. Then maybe the new 1.5 will be able to do all that without the problems of the older version of the 1.4tsi. Not the ACT version that appears to be pretty good on the specs. The 1.5 has been rumoured to give virtually the same performance and economy though so makes you wonder why they switched unless there is a lot more potential with the extra 0.1l.

Yeah that's what I was referring to in the last paragraph, maybe I should've been more clear

I really don't know, there's no replacement for displacement! The increase in torque is what's most noticeable in the 1.8TSI

The power of torque!! I feel a song coming on!
The 1.8 manual Cupra is everything. that the 1.4 DSG was not.
SEAT have found a winning formula... Whoops they've pressed the delete button!
Surely shome mishtake Mish Moneypenny?
Oh well instant classic car status for us lucky owners! :flag:
