Not that im complaining, but why is the mk5 coop so cheap to insure compared to the mk4. My renewal for my mk4 was around 1200 but i bought a new mk5 cupra a month ago, and it was only £371 to insure thats with commuting and still being considered a young driver (20) with 4 points and a incident within the last 3 years! If i get insured on my girlfriends fiat 500 1.2 its only 50 quid cheaper than the cupra! Any ideas?

I found the same thing. My guess is that 1.4 automatics are statistically involved in less accidents. Maybe they don't take into account a 1.4 auto Honda Jazz is a different kettle of fish to an Ibiza Cupra!

This has been brought up before - it looks like the insurance assesors put the Cupra in the wrong insurance group.

It is basically in the same insurance group as a normally aspirated 1.4 automatic

Everyone expected this to be corrected with the facelift but is wasn't.

Until they decide to do something about it - enjoy the cheaper insurance.

It's also statistically less likely to go wrong, it has a 5 star safety rating, etc.

Funny: Insurance on a BMW M3 E92 (2007) with 420 BHP is only £100 more for me..

That I CANT work out lol..

First time I check insurance on a Bocanegra it was like £700 when I was 19 with 2 years ncb, its now went up to £1300 with me being 20 & 3years ncb, think it would be safe to say it was put into the wrong group for a while!

Its due to being an Auto, classed as a 1.4, some insurance companies put it in the wrong group. It also doesnt seem to have a boy racer image that other cars have.

£600 fully comp for me and im 23. Although thats gone up £108 when I moved into Malvern :(.

Also Delete this thread,

Next thing you know Admiral will see it and my renewal will be £3000!

Haha sounds about right!

To be fair, if you spend that amount of money on a Cupra/Boc then chances are you're going to look after it and not drive it like it's stolen! Factor that in with the relatively low number of these models on the road, and it will mean that not many are involved in accidents and thus hence - cheaper insurance!

I'm not sure how many Mk4 TDi FRs must have been crashed for my insurance to be what it is haha...

I've got the 1.4 FR and not the cupra, but insured fully comp, protected NCD, including commuting, relatively low excess etc. etc. cost me a whopping grand total of £216. I was shocked, but good shocked!

My car is a 2012 pre-facelift, and when I went to confirm my quote I discovered that it cost £2 extra for a pre-facelift over a post-facelift, no idea why.
