Why would water be coming in from underneath the dashboard?

check the cover over the pollen filter has been fitted properly, had it serviced recently?
(there is an outer cover which if you remove you can see the pollen filter and there should be a cover fitted above it, very easy to fit incorrectly so water can get into the filter)
Also check that the drain hole are not blocked with leaves and gunk.
You may need to remove the wipers and plastic cover running across the bottom of the windscreen to get access.

Possibly from a leaking pollen filter? If the scuttle panel drain holes are blocked, water could build up and run down there.
I know my door leaks through from build up of water inbetween the door and the foot sill (if that makes sense) - think its just a poor design. So is it definatley from high up behind the dash?

It's usually the pollen filter not fitted correctly, a lot of water can get in through there if it's not sitting right.

car was serviced about 6-7 wks ago and I did get a new pollen filter. I ahve the exact same problem with build up in the sills but it then leaks into my car. It can get so bad that my carpet becomes marshy
the build up of water on the sills is due to the door carrier seal deteriorating.

got under the bonnet and have seen that the windscreen seal has lost it's adhesive around the bottom right hand side, it's my guess that the water is running under that and not over it into the reservoir tray thingy below and getting into my car. Am gonna buy some translucent silicone to re-seal it on my days off. I've only just managed to get the carpets dry now as well and used up about 5 newspapers to soak up the water. I pray it stays dry.
i it was as wet as it sounds, LEE69 is correct the underlay / sound deadening material will the soaked through, its a bit of a pig job to get that dry as unless you cut it most of the interior needs to come out to remove it from the car.
So a longgggggg time with a heater or blower is another option.

Have you got a boost gauge fitted? The boost pipe goin from the engine bay to the inside might not be sealed properly. Happened on mine anyway.
Pulled it all out then resat the lot then got BNQ translucent sealer after work tonight and sealed the loose windscreen seal that I think was causing the probem, 15-20 min job n then wiped down with white spirit to clean the excess away. Think that's it for that bit, am gonna try do the door on my days off thurs/fri.
I have the build up on the sills and damp patches under my drivers mat after a rainy night, started reversing the car onto the drive so the rain doesnt hit that side,
really need to check all the usual places but never got round to it.

It would take a few days of rain for me to notice because all of a sudden the passenger side carpets were soaked through out of no where. Always keep a news paper for emergencies to soak it up if your gettin that prob mate
if you are getting rain build up on the sill its definately the door seals.

did the door today, here's hoping it fixes it, took about 1hr 30mins roughly I think. However it had been attempted before so I had to remove some of the other sealant already there which was a pretty poor job by the prev owner. Followed the instructions fully which were really helpful. However there must be at least a few mm of water under the rear passenger foot well as it sounds proper squelchy when you push the carpet down, makes me think the rear door may need done as well. Is it the same prob with the rear doors as the front?
