Windscreen Wiper Wash Query

Hi

New to the forum following the purchase of a new Leon FR 1.5 TSI.

Love the car and am enjoying it so far although I could do with a little help on a minor issue that I’m having relating to the Windscreen Wipers.

Firstly, all the normal functions work ok.

The issue I’m having relates to the windscreen wiper washing. When I bought the car, if I pulled the windscreen wiper stalk towards me, the jets would spray, the windscreen wipers would go into action and wipe 3 or 4 times, then sit back down at the bottom, and then a few seconds later, would do one last wipe, (I guess just to make sure the windscreen is clear).

However, the car seems to have stopped doing the one extra wipe with the windscreen wipers. It now only wipes 3 or 4 times and then that is it.

I realise this is a minor problem, but it is bugging the hell out of me, and I can not figure out why it doesn’t do it any more. I’ve racked my brain to try and figure out why, but can’t seem to find any answers. It’s only 2 months old! I’ve got to the point where I’m even wondering if it changes operation depending on the outside temperature, as it’s been less than 5 degrees C the last week or so.

Anyway, any help would be much appreciated.

All other modes work ok, (rain sensing mode, normal, and fast speed).

You don't have a problem at all. As you guessed, the car is designed to disable the teardrop wipe, as its called, when the temperature is less than 5C. It'll start working again when it warms up.

Enjoy the car.

Oh my god! What a quick reply! Thank you.

That’s great news. Seems odd but great news non the less. Wonder why that is? Wish it would say that in the manual.

Went to the Seat dealer where I got it from, just across my road and they said to book it in. Think I’ll cancel now and see if it changes when the temperature increases, (hopefully soon!!! )

I don't know for sure why it works that way but my guess would be that it's to reduce the risk of a dry wipe in the event that the washer jets have frozen up, although they would of course have already completed the initial 3 or 4 wipes.

I would guess it might be to avoid wiping the very small droplets that that can be left over that can freeze as they are pushed over the windscreen causing smears?
