Looks to me like the wiper blades returned to their parked position (from being in a stand-by position) which is normal feature on modern VAG vehicles.
It is done for better aerodynamics (noise), aesthetics and protection.
Why the wipers cannot operate normally from the parked position in the first place? I have no idea. But it's probably because the motor pulls the wipers into a physical rest stop, or the wipers need space to flex at high speed that it would hit the stop if not programmed to begin their swing at a point further away i.e. a stand-by position with a safety margin.
