I had the typical problem that my drivers side wiper linkage broke on a Sunday night before a long commute on Monday. The ball and socket came off, we managed to bodge it so I could do the commute. I've been to SEAT and got the replacement but I was wondering if anyone had a how-to guide or any hints on how to change it? I've tried to change it myself and wasn't sure on how exactly to do it
Thanks for any help

I had to do this not long ago, some care is needed when re-fitting the scuttle under the windscreen (I found this out the hard way lol). Basically remove wiper arms (13mm socket I think) then remove the rubber strip and scuttle. 3 bolts hold the wiper linkage and motor to the car (again 13mm I think), undo them and carefully remove linkage etc, disconnect electrics and it should come out, make sure you get the washers and spacers though. Once removed take a photo of the old linkage setup or mark where the old linkage was. There are another 3 bolts that hold the motor to the linkage, remove them swap over and refit in reverse order. Be REALLY careful when re fitting the scuttle though as it can be a pain to seat back in the groove properly and a cracked windscreen will result if too much force is used. A good clean out and a light smear of grease worked for me. Good luck.

Thanks! If this is a common problem this should be in the FAQ's. I only needed to replace the drivers side (£15 not bad from the stealers!) and it was a relatively easy fix.

bookmarked for future use. Girly's wiper links are looking a bit rusty so will no doubt break at some point

i know its a bit late now but ive had the same problem and the easy fix that costs you under a pound is just drill through the ball joint pin and socket and put a split pin in it :D works perfect for me no problems at all just be patient with drilling or could snapp a drill easly :p

Happened to me today, dual carriageway in the outside lane, wipers on and pouring down when suddenly...... Snap!
The drivers wiper arm was now lying across the windscreen pillar.
I managed to get stopped and bodge a repair with some wire to get home and plan to drill the ball out and replace with a bolt, although the splitpin idea seems good.

Happened to me on the motorway in the pissin rain drill it and split pin it that's what I done too and it's been fine!

any photos of this?...mine isn't too bad as its the passenger side ball joint that has gone...split pin idea sounds ideal though. cheers!

Sorry mate no pictures, I cut the the top of the link (plastic part) so that you could see the ball joint when the linkage is pushed into place. I drilled a hole through the accessible part and split pinned it. It's been fine ever since and that was 18 months ago
