Woosh noise when accelerating

Been noticing of late that when my turbos spooling up at 2100 revs im hearing quite a lot of air noise whilst driving. Its difficult to describe, i know theres the noise of air normally but its really sounding quite amplified. ie im hearing air woosh over the sound of the engine almost. The car still seems to be performing ok.. i think.. perhaps a little more sluggish.
Any ideas?

A few weeks ago I went through a large puddle and it pulled one of the corners off the plastic engine guard underneath which led to a whooshing noise. Probably isn't in your case but worth a look

Mine makes a 'louder' noise at about those revs. Quite normal I think.

Could be a loose boost hose ?

You didnt mention the fact your car smokes like a tank!

yeah boost leak somewhere mate, probably a cracked hose mayb?

Yeah think ill book it into seat next week. It is smoking like a biatch too. It looks foggy in the rear view mirror heheh.

Had a quick look under the bonnet but couldnt find anything obvious, smokes a lot when accelerating brown smoke with the looks of it. Proper dirty derv!
So whats the chance of a seat garage near me offering courtesy car whilst its in? hmm.

The boost pipe's normally pop off the intercooler - not immediately obvious from the engine bay as the IC's behind the front bumper - just in front of the F/O/S wheel

Ah right ok cheers Leigh , well ive booked it in at Autoworld Sheffield for the 27th for them to look at wooshing, black smoke and tapping when idle. And before anyone says, its going there because its closest to my work so its not a matter of choice. But i am getting a courtesy car at least.

And oh my goodness it is at the moment!! Its a great feature. Drive really nicely keeping below 2100 revs for a while, then totally boot it in 2nd / 3rd gear right up to the red line and the pouthering of brown (yes brown!) smoke behind me is like.. oh wow!! Theres sooooo much, you cant see anything through the rear view mirror! Must never do it when theres a copper around. Though awesome to do when im stuck behind someone whos pissing me off, overtake and.. SHMOKED!!!! Also great for tailgaters, ease off get some space infront of me.. floor it.. and SHMOKE HIM!!!

Hopefully i'll loose this feature next week when the car goes into Seat.

Just to update, cars been getting worse Engine lights on now. Really struggling and dropping into limp mode now. So what it was was getting worse. Anyway this morning I dropped it into Autoworld at Sheffield, hadnt gone an hour and they rung me up to say my Turbo Pipe had split. They're ordering one in for tomorrow so hopefully should be sorted then. So im buzzing round in a suzuki liana thing. Bah its a courtesy car, im not bothered at least my babys getting fixed and should be good for when i take it home to spain

Ive only driven the thing to work from autoworld (about 5 miles) in thick heavy traffic with the fuel gauge reading empty.. so didnt have time to determine whether its any good or not. Giving it a blast down the motorway on the way home so will then

Well the suzuki liiana with its 1.6 engine seems a bit faster than an ibiza 1.4 sport (T.sparks courtesy car). But gees take a corner in the lliana and you feel like the cars gonna tipple. Absolutely rubbish whereas the beeza 1.4 sport feels like its on rails. Handles better than my FR.
Isnt it funny how we've both once again been buzzing around in courtesy cars simultaneously. At least its not the Corsa Club this time hehehehe.

Anyway Autoworld phoned me back yesterday to say my car was ready so went and picked it up. Custom code back on and vrooooooooooooooom! My it feels fast. Not because ive had as slower car for a couple of days, but because my car has been performing like crap for the last couple of months whilst this fault has been developing.

Hats off to autoworld sheffield though, totally hassle free they got the job done. Only gripe is that they didnt plug my vag com cable back in hehehe.
