Heres a biggy for ya...

You once had a Mk1 cupra (180).... you loved it...

Due to doing huge miles, you changed to a mk2 FR, you also love it. Its the highest spec pretty much, xenon headlights that look round corners, heated seats, bluetooth, electric folding mirrors, cc, ac, climate, and so on... you know the rest...

However...

your job has changed. You no longer do high miles. And you earn more than before. Your FR has high ish miles on it... (120k) but you're aware it will go on for way way longer. It still goes like stink.... and is super reliable... and in good condition all round...

BUT...

The car you wanted as a young lad, when they first came out... was an original Cupra R.

They possess no where near the same fancy gadgets as your current car, cost more to tax and insure....

BUT...

remember the sound they make? Remember the raw driving fun of the 180?

SO.....

I'm thinking of giving up all the gadgets, fuel consumption, and luxuries..... to own an original Cupra R.

...... Would YOU??? :)

(Swaps considered ha ha!!)

you're not going too far back i suppose..... but as any later model is supposed to be an improvement over previous i'd be test driving one again just to make sure.

Well I prob would my self if there is a good standerd Cupra r mk1 available on the market

Reasons I would down age to a mk1 Cupra r over a mk2 fr

Getting quite rare
They come with quite good spec anyway
Possibley able to find one with lower mialage over ur fr
And I love the mk1 Cupra r
The fr mk2 Leon is so so common now

Reasons why I wouldn't change to a mk1
Older car
Hard to find a perfect example
Cost more to run

The fr can be 170diesel or a 200bhp petrol(same as mk5 golf gti). Id remap and get better exhaust for yours and it will be faster and sound good.

What he said. there are a few cars I've fancied from my youth , driven them since and.... nah. years spent under/in older cars with assorted implements has put me off. i want to just drive em now not fix em.....:)
