XDS/electronic differential lock question

Hi,
I've had recently a chance to try out the electronic differential lock. What happened - I drove a bit past a parking spot and the two front wheels were lower than the back (by roughly 10cm), making all the weight of the engine there.
On top of that, the left wheel had good grip but the right had much less.

I tried to drive off, thinking that the differential lock would engage and get me out of this - but after a few seconds of trying, I only got smoke from the spinning wheel and had not moved an inch. (I did get the dashboard icon to signify that the anti-slip was activating)

Am I comprehending the electronic differential lock incorrectly? I thought that in this case, it would engage and break the spinning wheel allowing me to get out using the other one.

Car:
Seat Leon FR 1.4TSI 92kw (european FR, same as FR+ in the UK)

Ok - understood - so XDS and ESP does not automatically guarantee presence of EDL?

ht p://en.volkswagen.com/en/innovation-and-technology/technical-glossary/eds.html

I thought I had that in the bundle too...

I would guess EDL is in there as well but you would need to check the exact specs of your car. Are your tyres ok? Maybe they couldn't get enough grip?

Yes, brand new actually - one of them has lost tiny bit of rubber due to it spinning - and the other did not move at all (as the other was spinning).

Seems a bit strange although it didn't take much to spin up the wheels on my old FR (170) on certain road surfaces even with excellent tyres and TCS/ESP etc all switched on.

Electronic not mechanical. Applying the brake, isnt the same as transfering / balancing out actual torque / power.

It'll do it in a negative way, probably hindering performance. As do all electronic driving aids

my 1.4 tsi sport has xds but the only time iv ever noticed it was belting it round tight corners and corners that corkscrew. Let it be said its not done often!

its not the same when you have 125ish bhp :(
