right a few of us have been wanting to do this so here is mine..

over nearly a full tank i got. (before my fuel light came on)

350miles dead on
cost to refill £53
37.62 ltrs of fuel
cost per liter 140.9p

that works out at 43mpg

my car is a mk5 1.6tdi 5door

always driven very urban i.e very short trips and always carrying 2 adults a baby and a pram etc, this does affect the mpg.

im not too depressed about this even tho it says i should be doing 53mpg iirc

i hope in time when the engine is run in that it gets up to around 48-50mpg.

please fill in your records and lets see who is getting what! :D

Hi craigmk6,

Actually I make it 42.3 mpg. ( 350/(37.62*0.220) )

I don't think that the mpg calculated over just one tankful is likely to be very reliable. The measurement will be affected by (for example) how level the car was when you filled the tank. In the past I've worked mine out over about 1000 miles or about three fill-ups. I also record all the fuel I buy and keep a running average mpg figure. My 1.2 tsi is too new and my mileage too low for me to have such a figure yet. All I can say is that it's somewhere in the range 45-50 mpg. So far I've only done about 700 miles from new.

By the way it seems that trip computers are often optimistic. I wonder is that's due to evaporation from the tank. The trip computer measures the fuel injected into the engine and doesn't take evaporation into account whereas measurements from fill to fill do. It's possible too that evaporation is worse with petrol than diesel.

Yours is 30.6mpg

I must admit I have done mine slightly wrong as my first fill up was to the click and this one I squeezed an extra 80p in lol

My trip computer said 43.1 and IMO it's pretty much dead on.

Im planning to do it one more time.

Im going to go all they way to the red light and going to squeeze the 80p in again lol and recalculate it and I bet it's about 43mpg again. Then going to put another 4k on the car and try again. Bit sad but it's interesting doing this lol

O/T but a couple of you mention 50 litres... I thought the new Ibiza tank was only 45 litre? Or does it vary model to model? FWIW mine is doing about 37mpg on short runs and 45mpg when I go out a bit further/ drive economically but I haven't filled it to the brim yet, been a penny less student and all that...

I vent my tank and you can usually get an extre 5 to 8 litres in. I am only using V-Power in mine and at £1.41 i think it's good considering I saw it at over £1.50 at the services hahahahahaha

Unless you're doing huge journeys all the time you'd be better off just putting small amounts of fuel in more often rather than filling it up completely in one go. The difference it makes will probably be minuscule but a lighter car will give a better MPG, no?

Here
This is from BP fuel log over 8 fill ups, I tend to round the fuel price up rather than use the .9 that they like sell it at, so 146.9p/l would be 147p/l etc. I only fill to the first click no matter which garage I use.

I only keep the record out of interest, I don't go out of my way to get the max mpg I can, as you can see :D

Max - MPG 49

Min - MPG 40

Distance - 2735 miles

Total fuel - 311.28 Litres over 58 days

Average distance per fill up - 39.71 miles

Average distance per pound - 10.02 miles

Total cost - £439.38

1.2Tsi 5dr with DSG - 43.2mpg on round trip Milton Keynes to Exeter using motorways and with a bit of sightseeing thrown and fairly liberal use of the A/C.

Car has only done about 2000 miles so far in total.

Worst figure has been 39.2mpg, lots of stop/start commuting over short distances.

All figures derived from actual fill-to-fill and mileage, not from the computer.

For the miles you have done for the cost of the fuel works out you have done 39.98mpg
