To be honest out of everyone I would have to say I get the worst!

Mines a 1.6tdi and now I have confirmed my fuel reader is correct I've never really had over 44mpg apart from on a short journey.

I am half way threw Anothr tank and I'm showing 44.3mpg

I know it sounds daft but I would be over the moon if it would average 50+mpg

You're all getting far too much economy.
Just put my second fuel up into Fuelly..... see below for the outcome

Something must be amiss with fuelly because the onboard one is showing 37mpg average over the last 198 miles.
(woooo 37mpg average over 198 miles, oh joy oh joy, it's not even like i cain it everywhere)

I agree, amongst the TDIs it looks like your winning, or should I say losing. Even some of the petrol engines have got you beat

The reputation of the diesel engine for its fuel economy is really taking a beating. Where did it all go wrong

I feel for you mate, I filled up last week and have done 153 miles, so far the average for this tank of fuel is..........

And none of that has been motorway!

Why should two identical cars return 20mpg difference in fuel consumption. Driving style might explain a little difference but not 20mpg!

1.2 Ecomotive, 11reg.

638miles on the clock, two fuel ups with the first just after picking up the car and the second with 608miles on the clock and about a third of the tank of petrol left - would usually let the tank run a bit lower, but saw a good deal! Both stops filled the tank to the brim.

Trip computer is showing around 71 - 76mpg on average, with the best being 89 on country roads :wtf:

65.0 mpg can't complain at that!

Only 638 miles and 71, 76 and 89 mpg. That makes a mockery of the theory about new engines being tight. :wtf: says it all.

Derv FR 11 reg 1281 miles

Daily commute is 18 miles each way probably 3/4 days per week and on this journey consistently returns between 52 and 54 mpg

1/2 days a week longer motorway runs of at least 160-210 miles and on these runs if I keep it at around 70mph and drive with a light foot I get 62-64mpg. If I just stick it at around 80mph (ish) it drops to 52-54mpg

So average is probably working out at the low to mid 50's - quite pleased with that given how entertaining the car is to drive :) however prior to taking delivery I can remember thinking it would be nice to crack 70mpg

Is it possible to remap a derv for more economy?

i assumed that the test was done with a new engine (not run in) and im sure the test is done from cold too

The official test is done on an engine with 1,800 miles. Sufficient to be "run-in". Although some people claim that many thousands more miles are required to properly free-up a tight new engine.

The tests are run from cold i.e. ambient temperature 20 to 30 C. The urban cycle test averages 12 mph over 2.5 miles (~12.5 mins) then the extra urban cycle test averages 39 mph over 4.3 miles (~6.6 mins).

Cheers Andy, TBH if I remap, I would probably give in to temptation and plump for more power and tourque. I think an eco remap would have to deliver significant increases in mpg for me to splash out extra cash in the pursuit of cheaper running costs.

Will probably go down the same route as you shortly

Just filled the tank up as I have a long trip tomorrow. I had only done 190.8 miles and got 13.88 litres into the tank. I make that to be 62.6mpg. So pretty consistent really.

Then when I comes out I want 50+mpg!!!

I'll keep people updated :)

The thing is if I don't there is nothing I can do about it!

Car dealerships have too much power. I should be able to get a part refund or a exchange the car for a new one the same.

I've been sold something that isn't doing what it's suppose to!

I wouldn't be that bothered if I didnt know you lot were get g better mpg lol

Let us know how it goes dude.
Mine seems to have got worse over the past few days. I'd been getting used to seeing high 40's on the run back from work of late (over the first 1/3 of a full tank), but it's now dropped back down to mid to high 30's on the same run, ok, it's slightly cooler but not that much, and my driving hasn't changed, nor has the road, so i'm really confused.

It's being serviced at the start of june, so i'm gonna see if i can request a 1.2tsi or preferably a cupra as the courtesy car so i can compare mpg over the same route to and from work. If it's the same or better then it's going to be a long night in excel working out the cost benefits of selling mine and getting a petrol.

Mines gone up of late, only drove a few miles around town today and it returned an indicated 39mpg, impressive IMO given it drops to mid/ late 20s sometimes.
