Just did a 226 mile trip and averaged 54mpg average, mind you i may have been slightly exceeding the motorway regulations

If anyone wants a demonstration of the difference the weather can make, we came back from the lake district on Sunday through the worst rain I can ever remember on a journey. Total was about 340 miles on mostly M6 and M5 and it rained hard almost all the way. Overall mpg was about 42.

Five days earlier we did the same journey in reverse with just a few heavy showers and despite going faster we averaged about 50 mpg!

Goes to show how much power you need to push the car through a wall of water!

Car is a fairly new 1.2 TSI SE and I now know there are no rain water leaks!

Right my update.

I was unhappy with my mpg when I started this thread I was always getting around 41mpg

I took my car back to seat and got a ecu update a few weeks ago.

I filled my tank up when I collected it and this is what I got

423 miles
130.9p per litre
£49.34 to fill
Works out at 51mpg

Then I have just done a part tank.

231miles
137.9p per litre
Cost to refill to top was £28
Works out about 52mpg

Very happy now :)

Wooooohoooooo!!!! Finally :)

Oh and just to add last one I did before the ecu update I got 350 miles then after I got 423 big difference per tank. I filled up pretty much at the same time/amount of fuel left in tank iirc

Sounds like a good improvement then! How far are those figures away from what the computer is reporting just out of interest?

Did a little unscientific but representative test on sunday comparing my MPG on the run down to Inters against Chriis's in his Boc.
The 1.6 should thump the Boc here surely? straight run down the motorway, pretty average motorway speeds 70-80, with the odd blat.

I thought the results were disgusting:
Run to Inters
1.6TDi 43
Boca 39

Even worse is how poorly my engine is against the book values versus how Chriis's does against his

1.6 Tdi
Book Urban 52.3
Book Extra Urban 78.5
Book Combined 65.7

down Urban 9.3
Down E/Urban 35.5
Down Combined 22.7

% Down Urban -17.8 %
% Down E Urban -45.2 %
% Down Combined -34.6 %

Boc
Book Urban 34
Book Extra Urban 53.3
Book Combined 44.1

down Urban +5
Down E/Urban 14.3
Down Combined 5.1

% Down Urban +14.7 %
% Down E Urban -26.8 %
% Down Combined -11.6 %

Booked it into dealers for next monday for them to look at /waste their time on, as they're going to say what they said on the phone "it's not a fair test, as it's different cars, different weight drivers and loads, different weight stereo (eh? i laughed inside) maybe one of you had window open or aircon on etc etc"
And while yes I accept there are numerous variables that affect MPG, I can't see why the variables would be THAT different between the two.
The book values for the 1.6 are 50% higher than for the Boc, so mine is more knackered/short of book than Chriis's, if they were just as knackered I should've got 58-60, which i'd've been delighted with.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this/spotted any errors etc i've overlooked before I let it rip at the dealer?
