Nice u put so much photo's of it. That selfie made me laugh
I also want to upgrade my 1.8T with a SS FMIC. Only thing is I live in the Netherlands, can't order them here :(
Good luck fitting this!

Glad it made you laugh haha! :)

when are you fitting the fmic dan?

I'm not sure dude, I get Mondays off University but i'm in Tuesdays super early so i'd not want to get stuck monday and be carless the next day. Weekends I can't do as i'm in Newcastle with the Girlfriend or shes here etc

Think next monday but super super early start, I don't really have any car friends around where I live too that would be able to help either :( (where's the violin lol)

Nice work saving what could of ended up scrapped :(

Keeping an eye on this thread - I do 180 miles a day commute (hence my reason for buying a PD130!) I average 70-75 with no mods (well ok, engine wise just a Pipercross panel filter) but desperate to get some more power (and torque!) but not mess the economy - will see what happens with yours! :D

I wish my cupra tdi did that sort of mpg, I'm struggling to get 55mpg driving like a granny. Saying that I think a high ratio'd gearbox like the fr/vrs box would be better to bring the cruising revs down.

Loving the work your doing so far with this Dan, was the inlet manifold difficult to remove?

in that case my idea of getting a cupra tdi next is right off my list!

Cheers man, appreciate the kind words :)

Yeah im hoping not to ruin my economy too much, i've heard that a hybrid turbo doesn't affect economy too much when not ragging it! Hopefully haha

It wasn't too hard, just a bit fiddly but okay if you've got girly hands like me haha. 8 bolts over all I think and try just no to damage that gasket.

If you do remove it, don't bother with any other product apart from Caustic Soda which is £3 from Boots. Nothing came close to how easy it was to remove with that stuff, wish someone told me that as I tried petrol, mr muscle oven cleaner, homebrite drain cleaner,
all purpose cleaner and they barely did anything!

Could you please let me know how the air tec intercooler fits please and also did you have to extend the wiring for the air sensor? Did they supply intercooler seals or have you got to use the original ones?
Sorry to go on.
Thanks Adam

Wow I'm your first post I feel special haha!!

I haven't wired it up yet as I'm going to plumb it in when my ear delete pipe comes in a few weeks time. I'll update this when I have though. I'm going to get a feed from the light switch as it's only down the road from the heater vent.

There is a grommet somewhere that goes through the firewall but not sure where it is yet :)
haha yeahh iv just got onto the forum. still trying to fuigre out how to make a progress therad. atm im on with fitting a hybrid turbo frontmount and egr delete. thought the trubo stuff would be helpfull to some people on here cnt fuigure out how to make a thread lol.

Smallish update but none the less an update!

I'd seen on a lot of forums and threads that the CCV system clogs up the intake manifold, also by inserting oily hot vapours into the air that has already been measured by the MAF sensor it makes the car ever so slightly less efficient.

Way to get around it is by directing the ccv to a catch can or simply the atmosphere.

Alls that needed is a 19mm rubber pipe and a 25mm walking stick end. Along with two jubilee clips to hold it on.

10677676403_2b4775251a_b.jpg

Blanking off the inlet side.

10677476916_fe4de60780_b.jpg

Attaching the 19mm tubing onto the CCV

10677509666_983a0679a0_b.jpg

All done! I re-directed the pipe underneath the car. Apparently people get steam when sat idling but I couldn't see any.

10677542594_df7cbb064c_b.jpg

First impressions are good, I didn't see any better pick up however I noticed a 2mpg increase on my run up to Newcastle last week. Averaged 67mpg sat at 70-75mph all the way there which I was very happy with!

Usually get around 64-65mpg.

Second update is, i've had a few issues with tracking lately. Garage kep telling me its hard to track as apparently the "springs have been cut". Personally from inspection they looked fine but the car did sit low and the os shock absorber was leaking like mad. So I ended up changing them.

Started dismantling everything, fairly easy but the drivers side was a bit of a ***** due to having to compress the shocker as it won't slide down due to the driveshaft getting in the way.

10677498475_88c57edac0_b.jpg

Shocker out.

10677583004_99412708e5_b.jpg

10677571936_d1ae897a3b_b.jpg

Leaky shocker!

10677586096_3e413cf24b_b.jpg

New springs all fitted thanks to the garage up the road.

10677662834_9c7ba44ac5_b.jpg

It was 6.30pm and absolutely freezing outside but I told myself I needed to get it done as i've got Uni tomorrow at 9am and don't want to get the train so onwards! haha

10677719224_91f4ac5dc2_b.jpg

All in :)

10677922333_6828f0c753_b.jpg

Managed to do both sides within an hour which I was pretty pleased with to say I didn't have spring compressors or a hub splitter which would have made my life much easier. Suspension looks so so high at the front now, just needs to settle i'd imagine.

Come at me speed bumps lol

Cheers!

Evening! Today I started fitting the intercooler as seen earlier in the thread :)

Lots and lots of pics taken woo. Fitting was so easy, everything fits perfect and I only had to remove a few bits of plastic cowling with the grinder. No alterations to the crash bar either which is ideal!

I didn't completely get it done due to a problem further down but it's being sorted :)

Anyway...

This is becoming such a classic position of my car in my drive now hahaha. Started removing the bumper bit by bit

10710894713_8af3b46a08_b.jpg

10710608065_ac664d670b_b.jpg

With the trims removed the rubbish, leaky, tiny smic can be seen

10710861063_3e1b8c6b12_b.jpg

The pipes are caked in oil, and leak like mad.

10710665926_f557e5cb73_b.jpg

I then removed the whole smic and pipework

10710650526_4804e64fbf_b.jpg

mmm tasty

10710497055_f318161ba5_b.jpg

Check out the size difference!

10710568306_670c24492e_b.jpg

I then started fitting the brackets to see where they go on the car, they are made to fit in where the radiator is held in place, no drilling required, woo!

10710535564_726da22a57_b.jpg

10710448965_687d7bc171_b.jpg

10710522766_189510eb4e_b.jpg

I then started removing the crash bar for fitment

10710489424_62f901a53a_b.jpg

10710402825_fc22492016_b.jpg

Brackets for the intercooler in place!!

10710457504_c51545ff89_b.jpg

This is the bit of plastic I said I had to cut, it's basically a bit of trim. Nothing too important.

10710370555_7eecf44fa4_b.jpg

And wala!!

10710620743_4e2eec5a2a_b.jpg

10710425226_218bae9f24_b.jpg

Crash bar back on!

10710318735_f3e61764f7_b.jpg

Now to start with the piping! It looked like it might be a pita to get all right but I just went onto the website where they show it all connected and I just followed that.

10710373944_25455579c1_b.jpg

Cinnamon bagel and coffee required!

10710556233_15fb83b2c7_b.jpg

Made an absolute mess of the driveway though.

10710268725_e6ef7a3df8_b.jpg

Pic showing the pipework connected

10710342136_3b3c0419e9_b.jpg

10710327356_ff396f179f_b.jpg

I used my seals from the old intercooler as they look to be in good condition but may fit new ones at a later date if required.

10710291864_8ae5bd8eb3_b.jpg

Removing the old MAP sensor to go into the new pipe.

10710202505_830aef3b23_b.jpg

10710256424_2555669d1c_b.jpg

10710157195_d6aa4ea42f_b.jpg

I then had to leave it at that for the day because of a problem shown below.

10710393193_cbe4f90f6e_b.jpg

The kit was supposed to come with a MAP sensor reducer however they'd forgotten to put it in the box :( Not to worry, just delayed a bit.

As you can see the hole is way too big for my map sensor

10710073976_f3e8aa7083_b.jpg

And as seen in the bottom left (although this is forge not airtech), the reducer was supposed to be in the kit but it wasn't.

IMG_5213.jpg

The wait is killing me already, anyway thats all for now :)

I'd recommend this kit already, the pipework quality is excellent as is the cooler, brackets are perfect fitting too.

Cheers!

looks like a really quality bit of kit that.
when you get chance and if you get a chance could you get a pic of the pipework where it connects to the turbo please.
are you going to stay preface lift with this? i hope you are.
did the bumper fit of the fmic with no problems?

Yep sure, i'll do it when I fit the last pieces of the puzzle!

I'm keeping the same bumper yeah, how come you ask? Do you prefer the look or something?

The bumper looks like it might need a small bit removing, and I mean a tiny bit. Will take lots of pics when I re-fit it. Should be Friday!!

More progress from today :) Managed to get it all on, had to trim a bit of bumper and just wiggle everything into place really.

My MAP adapter comes tomorrow so it will be drivable!

I noticed that the pipes were pressing up against the crash bar and other parts of the car so I found some sticky foam and started putting it on the bits that rubbed, to prevent any usage wear!

thank you for the extra pictures.
has to be the best fmic fitment ive seen behind a pre fl bumper.
the reason i ask if your staying pre facelift is i love the understated look especially with your soon to be fitted hybrid turbo, also where so many people go facelift its made me like the prefacelift bumpers more.

That build looks good so far!

Looking at doing to same for my pre-fl sport however, want to keep it looking as shed as possible and on the cheap!

Where did you get the FMIC kit from?

Okay mate, will let you know how I get on. Seems to hold power a bit better now when I really put my foot down.

Fitted a new wheel bearing today after mine starting whirring away or should I say juddering, proper vicious sound not the usual buzz.

Started off nicely by catching this cut on my finger that won't heal because everytime I do something car related I end up knocking it hahah

10840400933_611087d1bd_b.jpg

I then started dismanting everything, knew what I was doing this time after changing the shocks so it was pretty straight forward

10840397293_44f7e154e3_b.jpg

Little bit of wiggling and this came out yay!

10840391993_759fe4142b_b.jpg

Took it to the garage to be pressed in, they've got a 20 ton press which was ideal!

10840111926_1bbec73957_b.jpg

All on :)

10840190854_4aec56cff9_b.jpg

The juddering has completely gone and I can enjoy a nice quiet-ish drive! Taken some pics, showing the intercooler too!
