Engine managment light coming on?

Hey all,

I'm sure this may have been covered before, but I'm a bit stumped. I've only literally passed my test and have bought a Seat Ibiza S X-Reg (1.4).

I've only had it for 4 days and noticed that the engine light started flashing for a bit and is now constantly on. I've read in several other sites it could be any huge number of things but being a first time/driver car owner I'm a bit lost for what to do.

I'm afraid I've paid for a broken car and I don;t fancy dropping loads of money on repairs as I've just forked out 1300 quid for it.

Any ideas or know of any trustworthy Mechanics in the Guildford area?

Thanks,

Need to plug it in and read the code, might be something simple like a temp sensor so don't panic.

OK, panic midly averted. Thanks!

To be honest, I'm an absolute noob when it comes to cars, so do i need to take it to a garage to get it diagnosed?

Either take it to a garage or see if you can find someone local with VAGCOM/VCDS who wouldn't mind plugging it in for you.
