Well a little update although nothing exciting I'm afraid.......:(

As some of you may have seen, the day after posting up my WIP on my LCR the bloody thing died on me and as it currently stands looks like I have a blown headgasket if not more.

So not being able to drive the day I've arranged for it to be recovered my home tomorrow, any excuse for an extra long bank holiday weekend ;), and taken to TTS Roadsport, which is just down the road from me, where they will diagnose and see if anything other than the head has gone.

Now in one sense I hope its nothing more than the head, as its going to hurt the pocket anyway, but in another sense if for instance the turbo has also gone belly up i won't fit standard parts again but rather go uprated in the case of the turbo the hybrid route. Could be fun...:p;)

Either way think the credit card is going to get a hammering but hey as they say you cant take it with you...........:D

Gonna try and get pics of the work being done, if I can do some sweet talking, so if I can will post up soon.

Hmmmmmm well the plot thickens...........

Car was trailered over to TTS @ 6:30am today and left with them to diagnose the issues and then call me with the findings.

So got a call @ 5:30pm ish from Justin stating tht they had performed a number tests to test the head gasket and all came back ok bar one test which was showing that one of the cylinders had a tiny tiny leak on but not enough to have been causing the issues I described.

He went on to say that with all of the tests coming back ok(ish) it looked more like the problem was turbo related so I gave them the go ahead to strip this off and check as even if ok is going to come off when (if) head stripped down.

I'll see what tomorrow brings but not liking that there is even a slight leak on one of the cylinders as in my mind that is just going to get worse over time!

Oh and also asked for price of standard K04 and Hybrid to weigh them up if the exisitng is dead.

Your probably better off refurbing your existing turbo Ed. Should work out cheaper!

Hmmmm:think: didn't think of that although I can get a hybrid K04 for £850 there abouts.

Although its tempting don't think i'll replace the standard turbo if it isn't fooked as knowing my luck there will be something else wrong as well and costs will go throught the roof....:cartman:

Hybrid treatment on a TDI is something like £595, this is hybriding your current turbo, aslong as its in ok condition, should cost similar on the petrol turbo aswell i would have thought

Well had a call from TTS this AM saying that they have got the turbo off and are testing it currently but was advised that is may have to be sent off for further testing??

Seems a bit bizarre it being sent off to me, never come across that myself, but waiting on a call back as was the lass on reception I spoke to.

Anyone had a turbo sent off for futher testing before and if so is it worth it and if so any idea of how much?
I know I can aak this when i get my call back just impatient and want to know now.......haha :cartman:;)

Seems very strange to send away a turbo to get tested. This will cost you. Is it worth it?
Its either obviously fecked or not surely??

What tests are they doing on it?
what do they think is wrong with it?

Exactly the questions I asked but the lass I spoke to couldn't answer them.
In my mind it should be fairly obvious if its bust and like you say there will be a cost for sending it off and if it comes back bust then i have to pay for a new turbo anyway......

I think if they advise to send it off that must mean they think there is a fault with it so I will decline, unless its uber cheap, and go for a hybrid option.

I'd put my money on it being turbo rather than head gasket. I can see it might be possible for a turbo to leak water through seals internally without showing any outside signs (other than heavy condensation in the exhaust) Bettter pressure tested properly than done in an amateur way so the seals definitely blow....

Dave would it be possible though, if the turbo goosed, for this to make the engine like a bag of spanners?
I understand that the oil/water could be leaking and dumping a load into the exhaust, explaining the smoke and very slight mayo that appeared on last run before going to garage, but rough running was the only part I couldn't attribute to the turbo??

I'm doubtful, if the turbo was seriously goosed, you boost would be down. Got any recent logs?

I have, at home though not at work, but boost seemed fine on last logging session.

Saying that though was doing a logging session 2 weekends ago when my coilpacks went and when they were replaced with new the power felt really down on normal and then later that day is when all the problems started.

I'll check logs when home but don't think they will show to much...
