Rear wash hose routing

I've got a leak on my rear washer hose on my Altea XL which is no-doubt due to freezing and a joint opening up. When I operate the rear wash a very small amount of fluid comes out on the screen but a large amount runs out underneath the car in-front of the rear right-hand wheel. I can't really see where it is coming from but it looks as though it runs round the wheel arch and drops onto the side skirt if that makes sense but there isn't obviously any hose there.

Under the car I think there is the washer hose slightly further in which has blue connections?? It runs under the car and then up and over the fuel tank I think. If this is the rear wash hose where does it go next and are there any joints succeptible to failure?

I still have warranty on the car and of-course I can take it back to be sorted but if it's simple I might as well do it myself. I've checked inside the car and there is no fluid pooling in either the passenger compartment or the boot.

Thanks, Mark

rear washer

Hi markirel

I seem to have the same problem as yourself . I have pulled almost all the pannels under the car off to find my leak but all i can find is water coming out behind the front wheel . Have you found the route to sort your problem.

Same here,

I too have the same issue, front washers work fine and no loss under the car, however if I operate the rear washer I have very low pressure and a big puddle appears under the car right behind the drivers front wheel and also a small amount in front of the rear drivers wheel

I have had a quick look under the car at this area but it seems to have a large cover plate over this area, which might be taken the same leak to two different locations

Anyone know the route of the pipes and how I might access the joints that people take about

Thanks for your time

I see the above link is posted on the Leon board, is it the same for the Altea?

Cheers

WOW, sorted, had to say I was really thinking i would be looking for a split pipe, was thinking how could a pipe which has come apart at a fixing cause low pressure on the rear washer, AND this fixing was at the rear of the car and my pool of water was under the front of the car.

Well 2 torx screws out, that hold the rear parcel shelf, popped out to carpet retainers, there's the pipe, mine had some grey foam around it which was holding it in the right sort of position but NOT fully together, hence some water could get through, but most was being dropped into the floor.

Pushed the connector back together, re assembled the carpet and shelf holder, job done in 10 mins,

Seat Cardiff wanted 80 quid just to look at it

Power to the members at Seatcupra.net, thanks guys

Dai, is yours an Altea or the XL?

I have the same problem though I haven't tried the washer to see where the water comes out the car - but what you are saying is even if it comes out the front, start with seeing if the leak is at the back anyway?

Hi Bobby

Mine is a 2007 Altea XL, it's a 10 -15min job TOPS

Good luck, let me know if it works for you, hopefully this will also sort my condensation problem out too

Cheers for that, may give it a try tonight if I can find time.
interesting you mention condensation - I have had that as well over the last couple of months cold spell though I can't find any actual damp patches in the car.

Will give some feedback when I manage to do it....

the 2 screws are torx screws, quite large too, they location of the screws differs from the Leon picture on the link above, one screw is on the underside close to the where the rear seat belt goes through the black moulding and the other screw almost screws back onto the lights, you almost have to be sat in the boot to see it.

Me too, loadsa condensation in the last month or so, to the point where it was dripping off the inside of the windscreen but like you couldn't find any damp patches

Good luck

Dai, a million thank-yous for your advice on here - it was absolutely bang on and I have now cured the rear wash problem.
I was going to try and take photos to post up but your description was so spot on that I didn't need to.

All in, maybe about 15 mins work and with the size of the boot, I could just sit in and do this rather than have to hang over the edge or anything.

Still curious to know where any water will have gone, no visible or touch sign of any although once I knew it wasn't working, I stopped trying it so maybe not that much water escaped.

Once again, many thanks!:worship:

It runs down inside the car harmlessly and drains out behind and just below the fuel filler. When re-connected and dry put a small piece of insulation tape round the join and it will not pop off again. :)

Found this thread after a search and want to say thanks to the contributors.

Recently got an 07 Altea for the wife, had some staining on the roof that was gone by the time we collected it (valeted). Assumed whatever fault was fixed.

She tells me the rear jet trickles out, so I take a look and notice it trickles out for a few seconds after use. Take a look at the roof lining to see staining on each corner.

Found this thread and sorted it quickly thanks to the info. Joint was all but seperated, right in the middle of the roof lining. Plugged it back in tightly and job done.
