CUPRA Leon, Formentor and Born Secure 5-Star Euro NCAP Rating despite tougher 2025 STANDARDS

New technologies including a complete sensor suite and advanced functionality help achieve the maximum rating.

CUPRA continues to demonstrate its commitment to safety and innovation, as the CUPRA Leon, CUPRA Formentor and CUPRA Born have once again achieved the maximum 5-star rating in the latest Euro NCAP safety assessments – this time under the more demanding 2025 protocol.

The reassessment confirms these models’ ability to meet the evolving standards of occupant and vulnerable road user protection, and places them among CUPRA’s line-up of 5-star Euro NCAP rated vehicles, joining the CUPRA Tavascan, and CUPRA Terramar.

“The CUPRA Leon, Formentor and Born have always embodied our performance-driven spirit, but safety is equally central to our strategy. Meeting the new 2025 Euro NCAP standards is a testament to our engineering teams and their relentless pursuit of excellence.”

The 2025 Euro NCAP protocol introduces stricter evaluation criteria across four key areas: adult occupant protection, child occupant protection, vulnerable road user safety, and active safety systems. These updates include more realistic pedestrian impact tests, complex junction scenarios, and enhanced biomechanical assessments.

To meet these enhanced requirements, the CUPRA Leon and Formentor are equipped with a range of new safety technologies, including a suite of camera radars sensors to support advanced driver assistance features. The updated Front Assist system now includes junction assistance, turning scenario detection, and head-on collision prevention.

These systems are designed to detect and respond to potential collisions in a wider range of real-world scenarios, helping to prevent or mitigate impacts.

In addition to active systems, the vehicles underwent new evaluations in side pole and far-side impact robustness through virtual testing. These tests are critical in validating structural integrity and restraint system performance in real-world crash scenarios. The CUPRA Leon, Formentor and Born passed these assessments demonstrating the emphasis CUPRA places on occupant safety.

Significantly, these vehicles now offer enhanced protection for vulnerable road users, thanks to a new leg-impactor used in pedestrian-protection tests that evaluates the femur and tibia more realistically, as well as an expanded cyclist-head impact assessment area.

These models also feature private eCall functionality, ensuring rapid emergency response when needed, rescue sheets in all languages of the European Union,  and have successfully passed the 2025 vehicle immersion tests, to ensure, for a certain time, the operation of relevant electrical systems and thus be able to guarantee the exit of occupants.

The final results highlight their all-round strength:

  • CUPRA Leon: 88% Adult Occupant, 86% Child Occupant, 82% Vulnerable Road Users , 77% Safety Assist
  • CUPRA Formentor: 91% Adult Occupant, 86% Child Occupant, 79% Vulnerable Road Users, 77% Safety Assist
  • CUPRA Born: 89% Adult Occupant, 87% Child Occupant, 76% Vulnerable Road Users, 76% Safety Assist

The results reaffirm the CUPRA Leon, Formentor and Born’s position among the safest vehicles in their class and consolidate CUPRA’s position as a brand that combines design, performance and safety to set new standards on the road.

Good news but lets hope that VAG / CUPRA have managed to resolve the issues of over sensitive sensors
