followed a new focus st home from work on friday.
very dissapointed in it as at a crawler lane we both put foot down to pass slower traffic and he only managed to pull a few car lengths on my standard tolly 20vt.
only guessing but if mine were mapped i honestly believe i would have stayed right in his boot.
if you do have a lcr i wouldn't be worried about coming across a focus st unless said focus is mapped

The Focus ST is easy for an LCR to keep pace with. They are slightly heavier than the LCR, but with similar power, so there isn't anything in it really. Who pulls away from who comes down entirely to who gets the best start and the best changes.

i have had a play with the st and they are quick they sound awesome but at the end of the day its 2.5litre vs 1.8litre both have exactly the same turbo and i think that just goes to show how good audi engineering is to get similar power out of a 1.8lump

If yours was mapped you may have, but thats not comparing like for like.

Plus for £500 Focus ST owners can get a 40Bhp remap as well so you are back to square one.

As said previously, you can't judge a car on a little "race" as you have no idea whether he was accellerating fully or what. Also you say new, how new was it? If it's a 07 plate then it's more than likely they're still running it in.

For what it's worth I am a Focus ST3 owner now but up to August last year I has been driving a Cupra R for 3 years.

Both have their good and bad points but overall the Focus ST edges it.

MK1 Cupra R:

Looks better (IMO)
Better Fuel Economy
Bigger Boot

Focus ST

MUCH nicer interior - Recaro Leather seats, better dashboard
Sounds better - 5 Cylinder 2.5 Litre vs 1.8T is no contest

And it is a smidgen faster, if only because it has a lot more torque.

Nope you can definately get them in colours other than blue and orange. What you may be thinking of is the ST specific colours which are Performance Blue and Electric Orange...

Very nice car the ST is, had the chance to drive 1 when Ford Motor company came down to our workplace with 1......didn't have to worry about the fuel costs when I smoked the tyres the saying drive it like you stole it rings true.

I went to look at the ST when they had been out for a couple of months and you could have it in (from memory) Orange, Blue, Black, Red, Silver, White, some odd Grey colour and I can't remember any more.

At first I liked the Orange, but that changed pretty quickly and now I really dislike it. White, Black or Blue for me

It's actually called Sea Grey which is a kind of dark metallic grey. Looks fantastic when it's clean and doesn't look too bad when it's dirty unlike black or white.

If I had to make the choice again though, I probably would go for white with the blue stripes down the side.
