how much do you rekon you could buy a second hand standard complete engine for?

depends which type but since this is in the mk3 section i guess you mean an AQX/AYP lump

in which case i'd be looking to spend between £500-£800

however tbh if i was going to buy one personally i'd either pick up a latter Golf lump AUM code i think or a BAM LCR lump and just remap it

reasons being...
if I was going BT i'd go for the golf lump since the stock turbo isn't relevant it doesn't matter what it comes with (k03s). prob around the same price as above 500-800

but if i was just fitting a lump and remapping for the standard turbo, might as work with the k04. looking at over a grand probably

just looking at a standard lump doesnt really matter if it's from the ibiza, golf or audi. Looking to put it in a mk1 golf gti.

The AYP engine dose have stronger internals than the golf and can handle BT with more conferdance, but as said if you are leaving the turbo standard i would go for the TT 225 or a leon cupra R as they come with a ko4 so with a remap will give you more power than the golf or ibiza.

but the main point is good luck in finding a working second hand LCR lump well even a cupra 1.8VT lump. I tried looking in scrappies etc I found 1 ibiza cupra and it was front ended so not luck there

that is part of the reason i said Golf, since there is probably more than 10 Golf 1.8Ts to every 1 LCR or ibiza cupra in the UK

much more common and much more likely to find one cheap

is AUM not the DBW K03S lump with large port head? figured this would be just as capable. it was my impression this would be the cheapest/easiest to get hold of as well

If you had read the thread properly you would see that it's for a mk1 golf project!!!!

got one for sale, with clocks, keys, ecu ect, the lot for a conversion

engine covered 28k
had metal water pump and cam belt, no turbo with it tho all the rest and still in car running

also have gear box with atb diff will sell seprate
