I have an '06 (June) 2.0 TDi Sport.

I cannot remember if this happens for both rear doors, but when I open the offside rear door after it has rained or I have washed it I get what seems like a lot of water coming from the bottom of the door.

I have read up on the "wetwindows" thing, but I cannot say that I've noticed that.

I'm guessing this isn't right, but can someone confirm?

Thanks

I've got *exactly* the same, from both rear doors.

I'm sure its not right, but i haven't taken it to the dealer yet to get investigated.

All cars have drain holes in the bottom of the doors for water to drain out, but it seems that on the Leon the water can't escape through the drain holes properly until the door is opened; on my car all 4 doors drain water when are opened after washing or rain. It doesn't seem to cause any problems.

So does that mean that if I don't use the back doors, I'm carrying this water around until it evaporates?

The reason I mentioned it was to do with corrosion. I intend to keep this car for another 4 years (yeah right) I don't fancy having to deal with extensive door rust in the future.

Just seems a bit crazy to me. Don't they have rain in Spain, apart from on the plains?

I don't know what the Mk2 doors are like but is there a seal along the bottom like the Mk1? If so, is it possible this is blocking the drain holes when the door is shut, stopping any water draining out? Or are the drain holes blocked by wax?

Think its the seal, seeing as it pours out as soon as you open them i doubt they are blocked ;)

For what its worth I've encountered this on my wife's car (vauxhall corsa ). Living in the land of the long black cloud aka Cornwall it happens a lot! The last one on an 03 plate she had for 3 years with no rust probs. New one on a 06 plate does exactly the same thing. Its never seemed to cause any problems- apart from wet feet when you forget about it :p

I've noticed that all 4 of my doors do it!! It does seem like a bit of a oversight on Seat's behalf. Surely the water should run out anyway??

I have it too.

Imagine the car sitting at an airport car park for a fortnight in horrendous weather while you're away enjoyingthe sun. How much water is going to get into those doors then?

I've never tried it, don't know why, but has has anyone put the window down on the rears and brought it straight back up - does it get water on the inside of the windows like the fronts do?

sorry to spoil everyone whos on a bit of a Seat bashing mission, but my Leon mk2 does not do this at all!!!!

Inface to clean the inner bit where people feel go when they get in i have to add extra water!

rob2005, in the last ten years, my husband and I have owned 8 SEATs between us and therefore are very passionate about them and loyal to the brand. I don't regard mentioning one problem as a SEAT bashing mission. It is unfortunate that the problem is highly annoying. When the windows are bad and it is very wet, I don't like having dirty water streaked up the inside of the windows. Given the windows are wet outside too in bad weather, it can make it very difficult to see through the windows properly because there is so much distortion. It is almost a hazard at times when pulling out of a junction.

As for your second sentence, I can't understand what you are talking about at all.

Glad you're car is OK though.

rob2005: not sure where you're coming from frankly. This is my third consecutive Seat and I am very happy with the car.

It seems to me that perhaps the whole door holding water thing is wrong and if enough people are seeing the problem, maybe even some design/process fault.

There is no bashing happening at all.

it is no bad thing the drainhole not letting water out until the door is opened, there would potentially be 'whistling' while travelling if it were open to the outside constantly.
excessive water getting inside the door in the first place could be a cause for concern though.

I've got this problem too (brand new 1.9TDI, Stylance).

Have only had the car since Wednesday, and it's chucking it down today. Opened the doors at lunchtime and I was not happy to see that amount of water draining out of the doors.

I also found out I've got the 'wet windows' issue.

In all the cars I've owned, I've never seen that amount of water get trapped in a door, nor have I seen water on the inside of the glass that wasn't condensation. What happens if it builds up to the level of the bottom of the door frame? Presumably it will soak into the door card and then into the passenger compartment?

Aside from the corrosion issue, there is an awful lot of electrical gear in those doors, and I doubt the speakers will be happy if they're getting wet, either.

I'll be getting this checked out when it goes back to the dealers for cosmetic repair (poor PDI) next week.

I checked all of my doors over the weekend and the only one that has the problem is the rear-offside.

Opened it this morning and let it empty for about 20 seconds - that's a lot of water.

Think its time for a trip back to the dealers.

Can you let us know how you get on with the dealers? mine is over an Hour away, so it would be nice to make sure they will/can do something before I go :)
