This was covered very recently. Its a similar price to get the front bumper, arches, grill lights and then the carbon fibre bonnet off a mk3 than to get a mk2 one made up.

BUT, if you had a mould made up and owned that mould and sorted out a scheme with that company for everytime someone wanted a carbon bonnet they got a cut you could soon get your money back I suppose?

fibreglass doesn't look good,and i am presuming thats why they are asking about them?as there's plenty of other ways to save weight than buy new panels.the interior will weigh more than a metal bonnet i imagine.

well the main reason is because my bonnet is ridiculously stone chipped.I gotta quote and cos of the colour (iris purple) they'll need to blend back into other panels,which comes out at £800...which in my eyes is far too much to spend on it.I'd love to have my car looking mint but just can't afford to.

Other option was to spray the bonnet the same colour as my rims (gunmetal) cos it'll be so much cheaper but i'd rather it was the same colour as the rest of my car.Anyone know and good,cheap sprayers lol or have any other ideas?Other option is to just get them touched up by someone professional,not quite as good but meh

the gunmetal idea sounds good, or if you wanna be cheap get a carbon styling film sheet and put that over the bonnet, they might make one for the beeza

If you can make a fibreglass one, you can make a carbon fibre one - the principle is the same, it's just a different type of matting and a different epoxy. Assuming we're talking wet lay, anyway. It's a rather different story if you're talking about forming prepreg sheets of carbon fibre. There's an awful lot of bullshit talked about this kind of thing - there's a rather good book called Competition Car Composites published by Haynes that is a good introduction to the subject - I reckon knocking up a bonnet might be just a touch ambitious for a first project tho!

could use an old bonnet (without dents) and use that as a mould i suppose, cant remember how to fibreglass though (did it at college)

Damn did I read that right?? £800 for a bonnet respray?? Did they also ask you to bring some lube with you?? Try getting a quote from a different bodyshop and I bet you you will get a MUCH cheaper quote. TBH a bonnet respray shouldn't cost any more then £200. And the fact its purple doesn't really effect the price that much (well not by £600 anyway), as they mix the colours them selves.

lol,sorry probably didn't explain myself properly.the £800 included spraying the front bumper and wings aswell and blended slightly back into the doors.Which is nowhere near quite as bad,but still a lot of money to fork out,over half of what i paid for the car!Stone chips are bloody everywhere on this car! nightmare
