Got into my car the other day and tried to start it and for the first time ever it didnt want to start and sounded as though the battery was low. It started up and then just lost the revs and stalled pretty much as soon as the starter motor stopped. Done this about three times and then finally putting a bit of gas on it started up and revved nicely. Since its been like it always has....

Anyways later found out that my housemate had tried to move it backwards by pushing it (Doesn't know how to drive) She reckons she put it in gear because it didn't move otherwise if she only put the handbrake off (Dont ask, because I don't know what she was thinking!) I think she may have put it in first gear and then pushed it backwards as I found it in first the other day.

So the question... If you put a car in 1st gear and then push it backwards does it F**ck it up in some way so it dont start properly next time you start it up?!?

no disrespect taken lol! she is only small!
I dont know what she done to be honest. Just my car has always started everytime first time (touch wood) and the only thing which I could think that may have affected it was her pushing it. It had stood still for about 3 days but never normally an issue on a 7 year old car.

not 100% sure.. but on some cars there is a fuel line switch.. (i think on MK3's it's under wheel arch) which cuts the fuel if the car is in an accident etc...

She could have triggered that some how if you have one..

Is it ticking over OK now?

I've heard of it happening more in Honda's that Ibiza's...

yeh it seems to be fine now. It may have just been down to it standing still for 3/4 days. i did clean the rear arches that week with a jet wash after the gti festival (mud fest)..

Snap. Mine has started doing this in the last few days. I thought it may have been to the heavy rain but its still doing it. When i start the car it wants to cut out immediately unless i give it some gas. The revs (on start up sit at just below 500 hence have to give it gas) And then within a minute its reving nicely and no problem. Ive checked the for loose wires and stuff and have recently cleaned the throttle body!
Any idea guys?
