Is an FR (6 manual) quicker than a Cupra when it comes to accelerating in gears? An FR DSG costs about the same as a Cupra and I do believe it is faster.

Does anybody have any numbers/data on this?

Not according to SEAT.

CUPRA: Maximum speed (mph) 153 Acceleration 0-62 mph (secs) 6.4

FR: Maximum speed (mph) 142 Acceleration 0-62 mph (secs) 7.3

FR/DSG: Maximum speed (mph) 142 Acceleration 0-62 mph (secs) 7.2

FR TDI: Maximum speed (mph) 135 Acceleration 0-62 mph (secs) 8.2

To be definitive though, you'd need all the cars on a closed circuit and a speed trap to time them all and what speeds they reach. And then time every gear change too. Not something that would be easy to setup.

I've not driven the FR DSG, i've drove the FR TFSI and its certainly quick but not quite as quick as the Cupra. But the difference is hard to notice. The Cupra is still very tight when its new and doesn't deliver all its power. Mine has reached over 1500miles now since new, and its really loosened up and is much quicker.

Thing is that 90% times when you accelerating, your hand is not as quick as DSG and thats why in real life the DSG FR feels quicker (maybe). I have DSG and I never have missed a gear yet when accelerating :D

Is an FR Diesel faster than a Cupra 50 - 70 mph acceleration? 70 - 100 mph

As a 4th gear comparison then probably, yes.

However petrol would be and should be in 3rd and would out perform diesel no probs!

Diesel only good in short bursts;) Not enough revs to play with.

And to the original question.....

197bhp vs 237bhp in the same car. Doesn't take the brains of einstein to work out which is going to be quicker DSG or not :)

Hey,

This is my second post and I have some new info. Went to a dealership this afternoon and the salesman is going to email me some figures regarding the in gear speeds of the FR and the Cupra, I'll post them as they come in. He - the salesman - said that because of the differences in powerband and the way the power is delivered at different RPM's the Cupra could be out performed by the FR TFSI (DSG or 6-manual). He even said than an FR TDI is slower a 2.0 TDI 140ps?

The powerband of the FR is spread out more even than in the Cupra and that is what could make the difference. Remember that I'm speaking of in the gear accelerations (overtaking) and not about 0 to 60MPH acceleration. Here is wat I was able to write down at the dealership about the FR TFSI and the Cupra.

In 4th gear:
From 60 to 90 km/h: FR = 4.3 FR DSG = 3.6 Cupra = 4.7
From 90 to 120 km/h: FR = 4.7 FR DSG = 4.2 Cupra = 4.7

100 km/h = 60 MPH

He is filling you full of it, DSG is irrelevant in same gear, no way the FR will out perfom the cupra between those speeds in 4th gear, why would it, it's same car but with less power!!

I would imagine that the DSG would kick down and so not actually stay in the same gear.
No idea if it stays in the same gear if you have it in tiptronic mode or whatever but the figures suggest otherwise.

salesman = bull:censored:it :w4nk:.

petrol fr (which is quicker than DSG);

so there, end of argument.

can't see that, in fact unless you have a broken left arm then nope the cupra will be quicker.

How a about a remapped FR TFSI DSG? I bet it kills a stock 6MT Cupra :)
Have anyone tried a race like that?

Is it significant at all that the K03s is a smaller turbo than the k04 and can spool up quicker?

Hey guys,

I have a stock Leon FR DSG Petrol and I did 2 drag races with stock Cupra, both cars were new and there was no way that the Cupra could win..
I think that to win in a drag in a Cupra you need to really have top gear changing skills.. however, on high speeds the Cupra is always better..
