can anybody help me,there is a lot of black smoke coming from the exhaust on my ibiza cupra r,especially when i have been driving then letting it tick over, when i rev it up it gives a puff of smoke, then on tickover it still blows black smoke,it isnt oily smoke ,but a sooty smoke, there is also a lot of soot on the tail pipe,i can clean it off,and when i come back from another run ,it is thick with a black sooty residue again, can anybody advice would be appreciated,
many thank's debby.

I had similar symptoms - I used vag com to measure the cylinders (block 20 i think) and was getting high values so changed the plugs (even though i had only done a few k's on them) and changed all four coil packs -

cant say ive noticed any smoke now but still need to log it again just to double check -

many thanks for your reply, have bin worried about my motor, will try what you suggested, just hope it isnt anything serious, please tell me,what is this VAG COM,is it computer software,if so can i get it for my lap top,and will i be able to use it.Debby

you can down load it from www.rosstech.com - its a trial version which will let you scan for fault codes -

but to be able to use a the measuring side(full version) of it you need to pay -

the cable can be bought from the same website or like some have done from ebay

there might be some peoples around with vag com near your area - or im sure someone else will post up what else could be the issue

i might be talkin bull s**t but it coul be that its running rich. Not enough air to complete the combustion in your engine. Resulting in unburnt fuel exiting out the exhaust. i.e the black deposit.

No your right mate. Thats all it is, My exhaust is really sooty its remapped with a 100cell cat tho, but on a modified turbo car your bound to get black soot in the exhaust they need to run rich to keep the engine intact to a certain extent.

If your getting visible black smoke chances are the plugs need a change first, then try coil packs. Possible MAF but mine was due to the plugs even though they had only done a few K's at the time.
