I recently took my 55 FR in for a 20k service and because it also needed a new rear tyre I ended up witha bill for £465. Now to me that seemed excessive. Can I ask is it. Clearly rather than dis the garage concerned I will not mention their name and only say it is in South London. I would welcome all views

I'd have to be asking "What the hell did you do ???????????????!" ..... i could get a couple of hookers and a good time for that **** !"

i would be asking them what exactly they done to the car to get to that price??? also if the car needed a tyre the last place i would go is the dealers, your sure to get it cheaper elsewhere. I've learned from past experiences that now the dealers must ring me before they replace any parts that is not part of the scheduled service.

i thought i might be!

Was it the sidcup one?

Its a shame they are the only dealer in the local area (as far as i know the only local seat dealers are wj king in sidcup and bromley), they dont seem to get much good 'press' on here for there pricing, dealers are always going to be more we all know that but WJ king seem to create prices as they go along!

Incidently, does anyone know if servicing your car at a VAG specialist will have bad effects come trade in time??

That is excessive. by some margin.
sadly all dealers will sting you for tyres. Assuming these are pirrelli or bridgestone i can see then charging £150+ for one of these fitted. (you can get 18" eagle F1s fitted for £95 if you shop around. camskill.co.uk for example) 17" probably £80.

But that still leaves £310+ for the service which is expensive by a big margin.

Have you got a breakdown of what they did costs etc. Did you give go ahead for tyre? did they give you a price for the service and tyre before doing the work?

byt he way there is another thread going at the mo about servicing, some interesting comparisons regarding costs there:

Thanx again

The garage is the one in Bromley, I have rung them since to get a quote for the service and they quoted £275 + vat. They bumped the price up a bit by saying I needed a new pollen filter ( £26) and what I never added was that they originally wanted to fit 2 tyres and i said just change the one that has the nail in that was supposedly punctured where it could not be repaired.
Funny thing is that it was perfectly ok when I drove it there or is that me being too cynical. Still lesson learnt. Next service definitely not Kings and definitely not a main agent.
