this is the most destressing and upsetting thread ive ever had to start on here, i have many tears flowing whilst typing this.

my beloved ibiza is not in a good condition. The words of the aa man 'its not good mate, Your Engine is fu**ed'

The story goes like this........ we were on our way to exeter about a 65 mile distance crusing around 100 and came to a round about... slowed down and went down through the gears and then without warning a screeching noise followed by a loud beep....i pulled in straight away to here a knocking noise.....this was not good. the car would idle nicely as per normal but when opening the throttle the knocking returned.

The aa men were called and he seemed to believe the big end (crank) had gone.

Had to be towed back to my gramps garage via a mate with a truck.....

we had a look and listen with the stethascope and believe the noise is from higher up. What could this be? Cam?

Please help, this is not good

if its higher up,could be piston slap.
hard to say without hearing it though.
i melted a piston on a renault 5 gt turbo years back and sounded like your discribing.
did the car loose power when it made all the noise?
does it run lumpy like its running on 3 cylinders? do the revs pic up when you give it a quick blip on the accelerator or not?

hopefully you get it sorted and back on the road soon

no smoke, didnt really know if i lost power as i stopped near enough straight away. seems to run ealthy just with an added knocking. i did say to my mate it seemed like piston slap. all i know its not good and is going to cost ££££....it tops off the week ive had

could be a big end or bearing if its just knocking but you say it sounds like its higher up?

well to say you can pick up a new engine for less than 400 pounds bare then it shouldnt be toooooooooo much hassle if your grandad can do the work for you?

Obviously not what you want or need to happen, but itll be ok

i know yours is a 16v but there was a 2.0 8v engine and box with ecu for £100 buy now! i found on ebay yesterday and was in 2 minds wether to buy it as a spare.
got in tonight and thought ill have it.went to buy it and someone had beaten me to it!
didnt think it would be on there for to long at that price.should have had it straight away
engines and boxes do come up cheap,just keep your eyes and ears open.
you might be in luck it might not be as bad as you think hopefully anyway

Thats guttin mate,a simler sort off thing happend 2me years ago in my mini,took the engin out and put my spare in said il fix it in a cupple off wks,any a few days later i snapped the 3rd motion shaft!so i had 2engins to rebuild!any way id snaped a conrod!you court it early so it may not of done to much damage!but whats geting me wil why you lost oil/oil presure,(the beeping)good luck mate!

Don't panic if it's the engine... it's so easy & quick to change the engine it's not even what I'd consider a big job (easy to say with hindsight)

Sorry to hear that fella, know how your feeling got under mine the other day and found a pool of oil, hoping it's just seeping from an easy to sort seal if not ????

How high up is it? I'd say it's piston slap maybe due to a cracked valve spring as it can cope at idle but up the rev's and it can't control the valve properly but as said it's difficult to diagnose without hearing it!

Just what I was going to say... if the engine is coming out to fit a new one, make it a 20vT!
