Any hose that need to take a vaccum has to be specially constructed and reinforced as basically its being subjected to forces in the other direction (suction rather than expansion). I'm sure you know all this anyway, but just thought I'd mention it.

thats a good point pj, but that means complete new fuel lines and also that i can run the s3 pump!! which i know doesnt have to be the way as jbs just added one into cupra_matts original setup.
i think what you are saying is true if the bosch is the only pump and its gravity fed....

............... If the intank pump fails the inline one should be able to get enough fuel through the intank pump to run still but not on boost etc.

I was told it would fuel enough to get you home type thing and that if the intank pump went you would definately notice it.
