Got one of these for my birthday last week, thought I'd give it a go when the weather dried up.
The test subject was my 1992 Golf Driver 1.8 in red. She's led a good life but clearly all of it outdoors and is a rather fetching, if totally uneven, shade of pink. The driver's side front wing is practically white with old paint.
I’d tried to polish it out by hand with a combination of T-Cut, Autoglym SRP and various waxes but as soon as the rain came it was back to white.
The offending panel – I’ve already done the bonnet here btw.
So I set about the front end of the car, following the instructions closely in terms of speed– and using the packaged combination of Sonus SFX 1, 2 and 3 topped off with some Meguiars gold class wax.
To do the two front wings and the bonnet probably took about 3 hours in total, although I wasn’t in a hurry and there was some chopping and changing of pads.
Overall I’m pretty pleased with the results.
The ‘white’ wing looks a lot healthier although it is clear that I need to go back to it with a more even handed approach – you can see where the elbow grease has deserted me!
The front end finished.
Hopefully the contrast between old (the door) and new is pretty clear – it’s night and day in the flesh.
I’m not kidding myself – this is a 100k car with numerous chips and scratches and will never be show room, but I’m massively impressed with the results I’ve achieved so far and they were far, far better than I could have achieved by hand (I tried a couple of weeks ago and gave up tbh)
I intend to go over the car bit by bit – probably the doors, then the rear quarters, roof and boot (which looks very fiddly – I could use a smaller backing plate and pads) and will report back hopefully by the end of the week with some stunning pics!
