Stylance or Reference Sport

I have narrowed my decision down for choosing my new Mk2 Leon, however, i am still struggling to decide between the 2.0 TDi Stylance and the 2.0 TDI Reference Sport.

Can anyone tell me a little a bout the differences between them i.e. is there a power difference, interior equipment, handling(one more sporty'er than the other).

The help would be much appreciated.

From what I can remember (in terms of equipment):

Reference Sport

Sportier seats with side and back supports
Lowered Suspension

Stylance

Climate Control
Audio Buttons on the Steering Wheel
Standard Ride height

I am sure there are other things as well. They will have the same engine with the same power output then its really down to the interior and handling.

I suppose the different model years may have altered though...

i agree i would chose the fr, there are so many deals to be had that you wont end up paying much more at all

Ref Sport has
- sportier seats
- firmer suspension

Stylance has
- dual zone climate control (as opposed to single zone in the sport)
- cruise control
- steering wheel mounted controls

For me, the ride was too firm in the reference sport, so I opted for the stylance. If the sporty suspension is up your street, then an FR might be better. The FR TDI has the engine setup differently (so it's more powerfull), and a higher spec interior.

The 2.0 TDI adds a massive premium over the 1.9tdi (which is the older, slower and less refined engine). So the cheapest I found the stylance tdi (2.0) was around 15.9k (the 1.9 is about 3k cheaper!) - I've found a few places selling new FRs for £16400 (even cheaper than that for prereg'd cars). Which is probably worth the extra...

Because I didn't want the 1.9 engine - I came to the conclusion, that if I was going with a diesel I should go with FR (I couldn't justify not!), but if I was going petrol I would go with the stylance (1.4tsi - which cost me £13400 - hence 3k cheap than the diesels). So I went with the stylance in the end...

Make sure you test drive them all though, because I was pretty keen on the fr tdi until I drove it (it drove really well... but I live in a very rural area, and the hard ride would shake me and the car to peices if I drove it everyday...).. So make sure you drive them without preconceptions..

Try an FR before you choose. Really do. It's a cracking car. If you can handle the harder ride, it's hilarious

The FR has all the toys and really comfy seats.... just make sure you dont wear dentures!!!!!

i went from an ibiza fr to my 1.6 stylance and to be honest i think i preffer the stylance maybe not as quick but i think it handles alot better and i also live in a rural area only do about 25 min journeys each way normally but do 1.2k a month the fuel lasts abotu the same as i dont end up doing 120mph like i used to i just cruise as at the end of the day it is a family car and thats how its being driven

You can get the optional sport pack on the Stylance which adds the sports suspension and (I think) the sports seats (so in effect makes it the same as the now obsolete TDI/TFSI Sport) although by the time you've specced that you'll probably be more or less at FR money anyway...

There is also the new "Sport" model due soon (replacing the Ref Sport?) which might be worth looking at.
Available with either the 1.4TSi or 2.0TDi engines.

I haven't seen a launch date yet but the details appear to be on the SEAT site already - but not in the current brochure yet.

hi,the reference sport is more powerfull i and sure that the stylance only runs at 115 bhp and the reference sport is 140bhp ,the sport also has the same suspension set up as the fr and the seats and equipment are better,also i cant comfirm this but i know the sport is six speed and most stylance are 5 ,hope this helps!!!!

The power of both 2.0 TDI cars is 140 and both have the 6 speed box.

Stylance is the higher spec of the two models as it has Dual Zone Climate, Cruise Control, Full Electric Windows, Power Folding Mirrors and Full Alarm over the Reference Sport.

Both cars have 16" Alloys but of different designs, the Reference Sport has Sport seats and suspension which the Stylance doesn't.

As ymx says Stylance for comfort, Reference Sport for sportiness.

Im my experience the Stylance is the more popular model and often has the optional Sport Pack which gives it the same seats and suspension as the Reference Sport as well as 17" Alloy Wheels.

The "new" Sport model? Is this going to be like the "old" Sport model then? Did it just take a break? I thought it was deleted after the launch of the FR...?

It's not quite the same as the old Sport as it doesn't have climate control.

It's based on the Stylance and get's Sports Seats, Sports Suspension and 17" Alloys but loses the Climate Control.

Available in 1.4 TSI and 2.0 TDI, £14,795 and £16,995 respectively which is a £50 premium over a Stylance.
